Next up is Evolbine Series II. Unlike Series I Series II is split between two sets. They use the same mold for the most part but have different colours and paint. The sets are called Mugen Tornado (Hero) and Mugen Storm (evil).

Tornado Scale is partners with Souji. Not sure why the the characters have partnered up with new Evolbines. Combiner and Attack mode parts not concealed.

The Storm version just swaps the lighter colours for darker black and greys. You know. Evil colours. Weirdly the box indicates that Storm's partners are the main characters but more 'evil' looking and their names are marked by question marks.

Tornado Scale and Storm Scale Standby modes.

Tornado Scale's Attack mode is a sea horse. It looks like one. But take note that the Attack modes in the second series all have their eggs intact whereas the first series mixed it up a little. You can still see the combiner parts on its back...

    Storm Scale Attack mode.

The Leviathan type Tornado mode actually looks pretty nice.

    Storm Scale Storm mode.

Next is Tornado Fang partnered to Kuroto.

    Storm Fang Standby mode.

Standby mode looks like a small dog or something. it has a cannon on its back. A bit disappointing that they are just mounting them with guns when they dont know what to do with a part.

    Storm Fang Attack mode.

Uh what? why is Tornado mode so long?? It looks unnatural. You can clearly see the Attack mode head there too.

    Storm Fang Storm mode.

Tornado Crow/Claw is partners with Hakuto. It kinda looks like a nest underneath the egg. Kinda... oh and dont turn it around.

    Storm Crow/Claw Standby mode.

Argh! What the hell is that creature?!?!

Storm Crow Attack mode. Storm actually looks slightly better because of the better mix of colours and the gold paint :D .

    Double the fear.

Storm mode looks a bit like Burning Feather. Its not a bad looking mode at all but...

As before Storm's looks better because of the additional paint.

Tornado Stag is partners with En.

Storm stag Standby mode. The Stag Beetles carry the combiner's heads. Storm and Tornado have different combiner heads.

Once again the Beetle has a larvae form. Very similar in fact.

    Storm stag Attack mode.

Tornado Stag's Tornado mode is more flat than Burning Beetle but its supposed to. It looks good. The pincers do move as well :) .

    Storm Stag Storm mode.

Lastly its Kouki's Tornado Horn. Lotsa exposed parts there.

    Storm Horn Standby mode.

Mini bull with two tails. Its ok. Kinda tired of the egg shaped bodies now.

    Storm Horn Storm mode.

Not sure why but I find Tornado mode's proportion just as odd as Tornado Fang's.

    Storm Horn Storm mode.

    Tornado and Storm sets.

    All three Evolbine sets.

    Evolbine birds.

    Evolbine dogs and cat.

    Evolbine Beetles.

Weirdly, Aside from the Beetles, the Wolves ALSO carry a combiner head. Not documented in the instructions so i guess they're for making your own combinations.

Mugen Tornado has a very similar look to Mugen Burning thanks to the eggs making up most of the body. But unlike Mugen Burning he has more 'normal' knees. but like Mugen Burning articulation is nice but not as good as the previous candy toy sets. He has 4 on his arms, 5 on his legs, head and 2 waist articulation. His posing possibilities are basically the same as Mugen Burning. A bit annoying that you can see Tornado Crow's Attack mode on his left shoulder...

With the left over pieces you can make him a giant sword too! I dub thee Ouja no Tsurugi!

Next is Mugen Storm. They mixed him up a bit compared to Tornado so it doesnt look like its just a different head. His gold chest plate looks just as cool as Mugen Burning's does :) . Of course he has the same exact amount of articulation points.

With the left over bits you can make him a sword and should (though the shield is a bit 'hole-y lol).

Here you can compare the changes between them.

Lastly Mugen Burning with the new arrivals. Mugen Burning is shorter than them.

I do prefer Burning's head sculpt and chest plate though. In all I cant say those sets are better than Mugen Burning. Just on par. Hopefully they make more of these things. They're quite fun :) . I'll leave the big write ups to someone who can do them. Not really that good at pointing out flaws and stuff tbh.

Today I'm going to review Majin Gattai (Dark God Formation) Wolkaiser and its repaint/ remold Tenkuu Gattai (Aerial Formation) Saint Kaiser, both from the Super Sentai series Mahou Sentai Magiranger.

Wolzard is introduced early in the series as an enemy to the Magiranger and seemingly rival to Magired. Wolzard's steed is called Valkyrion. Here they are represented by their Majin forms (when they grow to gigantic proportions). Wolzard looks relitively the same when he transforms into his Majin form unlike Valkyrion (who becomes a armoured mecha horse) or the Magirangers (who becomes armoured versions of mythical creatures, other than Magired who just becomes a armoured humanoid).

Wolzard is equipped with his Jagun Shield and Wolsabre (which can be stored in the shield). Unlike the candy toy version, the DX's Jagun Shield can not close to hide the eye (not sure why).

Wolzard shares the same articulation points as Magiphoenix (10 if I'm counting right). In fact they are nearly remolds. But the change is so drastic I'm not even sure if that would be the correct term. The reason for this is is so that they are cross compatible as we will see later :) .

Valkyrion is great. He is big, well sculpted and beautifully painted (mine is actually the Centaurus Wolf Megazord version but the paint apps are EXACTLY THE SAME :D ). The black, gold and silver works perfectly. Unfortunately, Valkyrion is a brick. I've heard you can get it to stand on its hind legs but I dont think mine would hold up.

Of course, you would expect Wolzard to be able to ride Valkyrion.

The first form of combination Wolzard perfoms with Valkyrion is the Wolkentaurus form. Its a bit weird, proportions wise but still a pretty neat mode. The way Wolzard holds the Vallancer is pretty cool. The only articulation is in the shoulders.

Soon afterwards Wolzard shows off the most powerful of their combinations. Wolkaiser looks really evil and thats how it should be. The detailing shows both a knightly design as well as a magical design. Very cool. Unfortunately his articulation is once again in the shoulders (forwards / backwards and out to the side).

Wolkaiser is equipped with the Valjavelin. Except its more of a axe or something. Thats because the TV show uses the other side of the weapon as his norm...

    Like so.

Wolkaiser is actually slightly taller than Magiking. Despite being only made from two forms.

As mentioned earlier, Wolzard and Magiphoenix are cross compatible. Wolzard can form the chest of Magiking (though this never happens in the series).

Because Magiphoenix shares the same connector points as Wolzard, he can do pretty much everything Wolzard can do with Valkyrion.

This form does not appear in the series either. Maybe its called PhoenixKentauros?

After Magired befriends Valkyrion (for a short time) they come to the aid of the other Magirangers and combines into Fire Kaiser! The Fire Kaiser combination forgoes use of the horse head as the combination's head and instead uses the Horse's tail. The fiery red really makes it look more heroic than Wolkaiser's purple. The silver mane really complements the new look too :) .

Because of the change in parts, Fire Kaiser uses the alternate weapon Vallancer (its actually the same as Wolkentauros' weapon)

Wolkaiser is a great toy and very intuitive. Unfortunately it was not released in the US but it WAS given a special release in the UK as part of the Argos chain of catalogue stores (maybe elsewhere?)

The Saint Kaiser set includes both Unigolon and Magiphoenix (recoloured slightly). Unigolon was given quite a few remolded parts (more than I expected). Obviously the horse's head was remolded to give it the poseable part that the Unicorn horn part attaches to. The horse's mane has been remolded to have a spirally design going through it and the tail area has been remolded as well. Weirdly the face on Unigolon's head does NOT flip (unlike Valkyrion's) so it forever has the face pointing downwards.

When Magiphoenix is about to combine with Unigolon, Magiphoenix is powered up by adding gold to certain parts of his armour among other changes. No idea why since the change does NOTHING to the combination. It just looks cool.

Like Valkyrion, Magiphoenix (and Wolzard) can ride it. Because this Magiphoenix does not come with a weapon of its own, you can use Uniggolon's horn as a sword. Nifty.

You can also combine Magiphoenix into the Centaur like form with its own lance weapon.

When Magiphoenix and Unigolon become one they become Saint Kaiser. Saint Kaiser's face was remolded including adding a golden horn to seperate itself from Fire Kaiser.

Saint Kaiser weilds the Horn Lancer weapon. This is the normal way to hold the weapon.

But when using the special attack Saint Horn Finish he uses the other side of the weapon (the unicorn horn).

Wolzard can also be used with Uigolon and it even has a unique face! A part around the face was painted purple so the combination doesnt look so out of place (though it does).

This is his equivalent weapon with the magnificent gold mane.

    Comparisons.

Overall they are two really nice toys. Would've been better if Saint Kaiser came with Wolkaiser Fire though rather than a slightly repainted Magiphoenix. Oh well.

Excellent review. Wolkaiser really should have been released in the US as an exclusive or something. It ticked me off that Koragg's Megazord mode didn't have an actual transforming toy.

Thanks dude. Its really a shame that it wasnt released over there. It looks different enough to Steerdergon Fury Megazord to warrant getting as well.

Today I'm reviewing Mirai Sentai (Future Taskforce) 3D Formation Time Robo and Delta Formation Time Shadow.

The Timerangers (bar Timered) come from the 30th Century. They follow the recently escaped Londers family to the 20th century to recapture them. When the Londers Prisoner grows to gigantic proportions, the Timerangers send a distrerss signal to the future to send the Emergency System. This comes in the form of the 5 Time Jets. They are launched from the Priovider base by the Providus Robot.

The Time Jets are all in a uniform silver colour but they all have varying forms of the respective ranger's colours showing through (some more than others). Each Time Jet has a opening cockpit where you can fit small figures of the Timerangers (gotten from the Japanese only Time Flyer and Rangers set, or in the american version comes from several playsets). Time Jet 1-3 also have landing gears but aside from that theres no other special features.

Time Jet 1 belongs to Timered. Its weapon is the Plasma Vulcan. Those wings on the back are diecast metal.

Time Jet 2 belongs to Timeblue. Its weapon is the Pulse Machine Gun.

Time Jet 3 is used by Timegreen. Its weapon is the Distortion Blast. Time Jet 3 is the reverse mold of Time Jet 2. Similar design yet different.

Time Jet 4 is used by Timeyellow. Its weapon is the Heat Disruptor.

Time Jet 5 is used by Timepink. Its weapon is the Diffusion Shot. Like Time Jet 2 and 3, Time Jet 4 and 5 are reversed molds. In addition to that Time Jet 4 and 5 have different wing/nose parts to further differentiate them.

    All Time Jets together.

Unlike many Sentai Robos, the Time Jets have 3 combined modes. The first of these forms is the Time Jet Gamma. The removeable parts of Time Jet 4 and 5 are used as the landing gears of sorts. Its a pretty uninspiring mode but I like vehicles that combine iun this way. It reminds me of the Jet Icarus combined Jet mode.

With a call of 3D Formation Time Robo Beta the five Time Jets combine into the thin and nimble Robot mode. Its a interesting design. Huge shoulders and short, thin lower arms. The legs are so thin it doesnt look like they'd be able to support him. Its pretty cool how they were able to hide most of the red in this mode creating a uniform silver, black and blue robot. Time Robo Alpha Beta only has 10 points of articulation but they're not very useful joints. The hips stop him from doing any action poses with the leg's articulation. So really he's only got 4 (shoulders and elbows).

In the show the Time Flyer vehicle can transform into a gun for this form. The there is a toy equivalent but its sold seperately and is now hard to find (especially since it was never released in America or Europe). Unfortunately this form cant perform Freeze Compression on the enemies so it relies on the alternate robot form when finishing off the enemies.

With a call of 3D Formation Time Robo Alpha the Time Jets comebine into the bulkier red robot. All the blue from Beta mode are hidden here. Very cool. In all he has 6 points of articulation (shoulders, thighs and knees) but like Beta, he cant use the knees in any meaningful ways. If you detach his hips then reattach them at a 90 degree you CAN make it look like its dashing towards the enemy. But this cant be used for display purposes.

From the green crystal on his chest he can summon the Jikuuken (Time Space Sword) and the wing /tail section of Time Jet 1 and the detachable pieces from Time Jet 4 and 5 combine into the Chrono Shield. The Jikuuken is rather fragile because its actually transludent plastic electroplated. not sure why they went this route...

When performing the Pressure Blizzard attack to Freeze Compress the enemy, the two side blades folding down to become the 'hands' of the clock. After cutting the enemy the hands slowly fold up until it resets at the 12 position. Pretty neat that the toy can do it.

After the Time Robo was damaged they could not get in contact with the future to call the Time Jets. When all hope seems lost the giant ship Time Shadow appears to aid them. Time Shadow is AI driven and not pilotted by any of the rangers. The Time Shadow is big (nearly as big as the Time Jet Gamma) and has flip out wheels on the bottom of the two guns on each side of the wings.

Time Shadow also comes with the Pro Divider which can either be mounted on the Time Shadow (thought never seen this way in the show I think) or on Providus' shoulder.

Like the Time Jets, Time Shadow has a opening compartment to place the mini figures of the Timerangers.

Time Shadow and Time Jets 1-5.

Time Shadow and Time Jet Gamma.

The Time Shadow can also transform into a robot by itself and fight independantly from Time Robo. The only diecast on Time Shadow are the metal support that undergoe a lot of stress when transforming. Time Shadow looks simple but its actually quite involving to transform from one mode to the next. I'd put it in the same league as Magi Dragon.

Articulationwise he has 8 in all (2 at each shoulder, ball jointed elbows and the wrists). Thats pretty good for a Sentai Robo. But because of design the shoulders are a little bit restricting.

Time Shadow's Shadow Sabers are hidden on the outsidse of his legs. They're attached in quite a weird way so you can point them outwards like in the show.

They can also combine into the Double Shadow which he uses to perform the Blue Moon Slash.

Time Shadow and Time Robo Alpha.

Time Shadow and Time Robo Beta.

When Time Robo Alpha's Jikuuken was shattered by a Londers prisoner and in Time Robo Beta form with no way of performing Freeze Compression, The rangers decide to combine with Time Shadow. With the command Delta Formation Shadow Beta the two giants unite to form Time Robo Shadow Beta. When I first got Time Shadow I was surprised Time Shadow stays in one piece when Shadow Beta is formed. I had thought the feet parts disconnect from the main body but it doesnt. Because of the way the combo works, this places a lot of strain on the waist area which is why its made with diecast metal. The chest changing feature is pretty cool :D . I also like the new visor plus horns design.

To use the Freeze Compression system in Shadow Beta form they are given a new weapon, the Pro Divider. It transforms into a gun mode to use the Pressue Cannon attack. The Japanese version had a light up gimmick but it was not included in the American release.

With the command Delta Formation Shadow Alpha, Time Shadow can combine with Time Robo Alpha into the Time Robo Shadow Alpha. this fiorm looks more suited for the upgraded because of his added bulk. Time Shadow's arms now fold down as cannons which are used to shoot the virtual net to stop his enemies. The visor now forms a bigger version of the Timeranger's arrowhead motif. Pretty clever.

For this form the Pro Divider transforms into Blade mode for Shadow Alpha to perform the Blizzard Slash to Freeze Compress his enemies.

In all they're pretty cool toys. Neat concept of having two robot modes and theres even a final form for both modes. I'm just a bit disappointed that Time Robo Beta's gun is sold seperately (and now impossible to find). Because of the complexity of the design, Time Shadow is rather fragile unfortunately (so is the Jikuuken).

Not updated this thread for a while haha. Well thought I'd post these pics up since they're pretty rare toys.

Kabaya is a company that specialises in making cheap toys that come with a piece of candy. They can be either orifginal characters or licensed characters like Transformers and Braves. One of their licensed lines is from Denkou Chojin (Electronic Superhuman) Gridman.

This line of candy toy comes in a set of 3. Each box shows a pic of Gridman or one of his upgrades. But weirdly it does not show any pics of the toys.

    The toys come unassembled.

Set 1 contains the Thunder Jet and God tank.

Set 2 contains Gridman himself, Twin Driller and Dyna Fighter.

And set 3 contains the King Jet.

Gridman himself is rather plain. He has articulation at his shoulders, elbows (inwards) and hips. Not a whole lot. He comes with his sword (one piece).

His cant really old the Dyna Fighter as a cannon since it causes him to fall over. This is the best he can do...

Thunder Jet, God Tank and Twin Driller together. Pretty standard build.

Like in Super Sentai, these three vehicles can combine together. The drill tips on Twin Driller have to be removed in order to combine...

Combined they form God Zenon who can support Gridman in times of need. Again minimal articulation. Shoulders (outward as well as forward), hips (outward again) and head (kind small so not really practicall to move it). The transformation is pretty accurate to the DX toy.

    God Zenon with Gridman.

Instead of ending the combination there, God Zennon can also link up with Gridman too. This time two small 'connectors' are need to connect Gridman to the God Tank.

Combined they form Gattai Choujin (Combination Super God) Thunder Gridman. What Gridman had for articulation is what Thunder Gridman has. Except ver restricted due to the new armor. Interestingly Thunder Gridman's face isnt molded in. They just give him a HUGE visor piece with a whole under it to see Gridman's faceplate. Except you can see it because of the red plastic being so bright.

Next is King Jet and Dyna Fighter. King Jet is the biggest vehicle of the 5 and takes the longest time to build.

They can combine together to form the Dragon Fortress. Just adds two tail find at the back...

Dragon Fortress can then transform into the Dyna Dragon. More parts need removing to transform.

Dyna Dragon has surprising amounts of articultion. His hips and knees move, head, and his arms (three joints each).

    Gridman with Dyna Dragon.

Combining Dyna Dragon and Gridman forms Gattai Ryutei (Combination Dragon Emperor) King Gridman. Slightly Taller than Thunder Gridman and less chunkier because of how the parts do not cover him as much as Thunder Gridman's.

Gridman with both God Zenon and Dyna Dragon.

    DX and Kabaya comparisons.

So pretty cool. Not really worth the price I paid (at least it wasnt Yahoo prices) But need small versions of Gridman.

Excellent pictures Roan. I love my DX Gridman (well, SSSS), so it's good to see some love for that property.

Kind of let down by the minipla though. I think the DX wins all around.

Again, excellent pictures and nice review.

Thanks dude. I agree the DX is better. But still how can it not be? Its a awesome toy. Beating out even the Braves in terms of detailing and arguably engineering as well. Just a shame Zennon and Dyna Dragon combine together or be combined with Gridman at the same time (Even if King Gridman is really top heavy already :lol ).

Yeah yeah, zombie thread, but I've got stuff to add

So I found a ko armored police metal jack figure a few weeks ago, which prompted me to look for the originals, I found blue jack for a measly 34$ shipped, boy was that money well spent!

Unfortunately the ko I found was missing the leg armor and guns, but oddly while the majority of his parts are from shadow jack, there are two notable exceptions, the shoulders, which are from silver jack, and in true ko form.....

Hold that thought Im on my phone, so continued below

.... The robot mode head for shadow jack has been replaced by that of a transformer, Transformers Zone Roadfire to be exact!

Oh and the kos colors are so decidedly terrible that I can't help but love them!!!

For a ko its really solid, but the original still surpasses it in every way as far as quality is concerned

The only things that bum me out about buying these two, is that now I want the rest!!! Which means I'll probably need to use a middleman service if I want to get them at a reasonable price, without having to stalk eBay for what could be years :lol

The most expensive ones are Red Jack and the near impossible to find Hyper Red Jack. Nice toys for the time and IMO the predecessors to the Gridman toys.

Yeah I noticed the similarities in the play pattern, and face sculpts, fine by me, I love my dx gridman/shss toys, they have unfortunately been loved very nearly into oblivion in my case though :lol

I should probably replace them, but I can't bring myself to do it!!!

I've seen pics of a ko hyper red jack floating around, but if worst comes to worst, I'll just buy the model kit

Edit: found the pic, and it's better than I thought!!!

But in my experience, kos can be just as, or even more difficult to track down than the originals, whatever though just happy I found the line!

It's probably going to come down to whichever I find first at a reasonable price, straight up kos from a somewhat obscure line that hasn't done anything new for 20+ years arent really in danger of "depreciating" an originals value, or fooling anyone actively searching for an original (or I'd hope not at least)

Did you complete the line? I know you showed shadow jack and red jack earlier in the thread, its why I posted here in the first place :lol

Sadly red and shadow are the only ones i have. Im not too interested in silver and blue and hyper red is rare (other than kos). A bit sad the line was so small...

Thanks for the info, I'll budget it in, and if it's still there I'll when I've got the funds I'll pick it up!

Of course after seeing if I can aquire a real or crazy color ko through other avenues at a comparable price

And yeah, it's shame it never took off

The seller I got my blue jack from has another on offer at the same starting bid, they also have a metric ton of B-daman stuff on offer as well
