More miscellaneous figures from japan! Yay!
My box of Chou Mashin Eiyuuden figures came in today. One of them I already have and have already photographed so he will be ignored. Mashin is a pun. The kanji means dark god or demon but its pronounced machine.
First set of figures.
Mashin Ryujinmaru
Mashin Jakomaru
Mashin Senjinmaru (doesn't have the blister. Only the card backing.)
Byakko Ryujinmaru
Geko Ryujinmaru
Ho-oh Ryujinmaru
Second set of figures.
Mashin Choujinmaru
Mashin Dorvolt (Name?)(Selling this to a friend)
Ho-oh Ryujinmaru (the extra which I'm selling to a friend)
Shishi Ryujinmaru (Selling this to a friend)
Ken-oh Ryujinmaru (Selling this to a friend)
#1 Mashin Ryujinmaru
#3 Mashin Dorvolt
#4 Mashin Choujinmaru
#5 Mashin Jakomaru
#6 Shishi Ryujinmaru
#7 Ho-oh Ryujinmaru
#8 Ken-oh Ryujinmaru
#9 Geko Ryujinmaru
#10 Byakko Ryujinmaru
Mashin Ryujinmaru (dragon god)
Front view
Toryuken 'mode' (shoulder opens for final attack)
Nice and basic figure as the first in line. Lacking in articulation compared to the later figures. The upper legs rotate on ball joints, shouler moves up and down, upper arm move outward (no elbow swivel?) , head turns (only slightly though), 'dragon claws' move up down too and the back wings rotate for Toryuken mode. Its your generic hero mecha.
Mashin Senjinmaru with all weapons sheathed (War god)
With both katanas
He did not take to the photos well. And the figure is sub-standard. Basic movement in feet, shoulder and upper arm moves outward. Two panels on the back can be pressed to make the shields on his shoulder to spin (this is how he flies in the anime). Its ok. Nothing to go WOW.
Mashin Dorvolt with weapon
Wngs open
Worst figure of the set IMHO. Upper leg ball-jount movement, shoulder, and head. The arms move in for wing popping action. Has hardly anything to warrant buying it at all. My friend was willing to give it a home though.
Mashin Choujinmaru (Bird God)
Alt mode
'Combined' with Ryujinmaru
Hardly a alt mode but I like it for some reason. Missiles can be attached to its bottom in alt mode. Same articulation as Ryujinmaru and Dorvolt except it has feet articulation to put it into an aerial pose. It can 'combine' with Ryujinmaru in alt mode but it doesn't look all that great. Useless gimmick to sell this figure.
Jakomaru (Evil Tiger)
With sword in shield
With sword and shield
Alt mode
Alternate angle
Nice rival mech. Was first introduced in Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru as a late rival. He is an ally in Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru 2 and an enemy turned ally in Chou Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru. His mech was changed in 2 but it is essentially the same in this version. See the original here:

It has more articulation than any of the other figures. Its shoulder moves up and down, upper arm moves in all sides but only a little, upper leg moves in all sides, Knee swivels left and right, Feetmoves in all sides (for transformation but can be utilized in Mashin mode too), wing articulation, waist moves updown (so it can look up or down thought it is also mainly for alt mode) and tail articulation. He has A LOT of balljoints compared to the others. But the tail doesn't like to stay in and one of the silver wing pieces are loose. He's a neat figure and one of the ones I was looking forward to the most. The alt mode is alright. I don't know if its supposed to be a Tiger (as the name suggests) or a bear. Not much you can do with a SD mech.
Shishi Ryujinmaru (Shishi is lion in japanese)
Its a gold and black repaint of the main character. What more is there to say? Very lame first power up but its a gold power up so who cares.
Ken-oh Ryujinmaru (Ken-oh means sword king but the official translation is Sword Master)
With Ken-oh Toryuken
With Ken-oh no ken (Sword of the Sword Master)
Alternate angle for abetter look at the sword
Has a pirate-ish design. Not bad but not my favourite of Ryujinmaru's upgrades. His Turyuken (the claw/sword thing) has a gimmick where it clicks into place and pulling its 'finger' the sword swings down again. The mask comes off to reveal Ryujinmaru's face. From Jakomaru upwards (excluding Shishi since its a repaint) all the figures now have knee swivel and upper arm swivel and outward motion too so this figure is no exception. It has nearly the same articulation as Jakomaru but it loses out on feet articulation.
Geko Ryujinmaru with shield and sword on back (Geko means moon light)
With sword and shield
Has a elegant look but kind of bland because of the lack of details. The mint green is kind of wierd too. The shield has a metallic sticker on it that shows a picture of a dragon at a certain angle. Has same articulation as Ken-oh Ryujinmaru. Theres not really a whole lot to say.
Byakko Ryujinmaruwith sword on back (Byakko means white tiger)
Back view to show its articulated tail
With sword in hand
With the thunder helm and tail as whip weapon
Shoulders attached to arms as a 'claw attack mode'
Out right the guy with the most play value. It has the same articulation as Ken-oh Ryujinmaru and Geko Ryujinmaru but the ammount of extras included is very nice (as opposed to Dorvolt who has nothing worth talking about). Its got a articulated tail that doubles as a whip, a standard affair sword, exchangeable helmet to give it the more traditioal ryujinmaru head, and the shoulder guards which can detach and become giant claws of doom. Only qualm is that the sword is so rubbery and thin it won't stay in his hand at all. He also looks very impressive. Its the be-all-end-all of the Ryujinmarus (if Chou Mashin Ryujinmaru wasn't in the show that is, and of course no poseable figure was EVER made for him. Only a garage kit, fixed pose figure). The lightning helmet can be attached to Mashin Ryujinmaru for some reason (its shown on the back of the card) but it never happens in the show. Wierd.
One thing I'm a bit suprised about is the plastic. When I got Ho-oh Ryujinmaru, A lot of the parts felt more rubbery than plastic and he felt pretty heavy. But the others seems to be made by a completely different company. Very light and hollow feeling to many of them. But all of them share the same sloppily applied paint.
Overall they are very nice and are some of the best Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru merchandise but I still hope one day I'll win that elusive DX Ryuseimaru floating about on yahoo auctions.
