There's no Bayformers going on. It's just missing a lot of the exterior armour in that image, so you're seeing a lot of internal structures there. Biggest giveaway is the two shoulders.
TBH, that art reminds me more of the scene from Gundam SEED where the Strike Gundam was activated for the 1st time, in the middle of a hangar blazing with fire:
Well we can say for certain they're taking it seriously. It's *an* RX-78 based design but the silhouette makes me think of Nu Gundam (skirts), Narrative (head), and Freedom (chest). It won't be a direct copy of the RX-78-2, but it will be the film's Gundam. Now, bring on the GOUF!!!! To be honest that was one of my few favorite moments of that anime series. Just something about the way the Strike moved felt it had some weight to it. The first activation sequence for the Gundam, rising out of the fire during an attack has been a key visual of the franchise since the beginning. So naturally the (SECOND) Live Action film would do it too.
I will say the "expression" is pretty dull. The eyes ought to be a bit "angrier," especially given the cool backlit engulfed in flames visual.
I think it'll depend on how big the eyes are normally when viewed from the front full on as well as how the mouthplate is sculpted. Going off the sculpts of my G04/G05, they have pretty big eyes but if you tilt the heads down, the appearance shifts and they look angry as all hell.
I'd call it the ** "Iron Man Expression." Fixed pose slits for eyes, and it's all about the visual angle to establish the mood. ** I can't find the article I got this from, but I remember reading an interview with Stan Lee when the first Iron Man movie came out. he talked about how Steve Ditko would draw Iron Man at different angles to show expression.
Finished my Age-1 normal. I absolutely get why this guy appears on several must build lists. At first glance I just kinda skipped over him, but after I built I think its a gem. Fairly simple compared to some of the more extravagant gundams, but it got some killer articulation.
Mail's here!! I avoided preordering it but it had long since sold out, but then the other day I noticed Newtype finally got them in stock, sold out, and then suddenly one popped back up again . Just as every other source I rely on has them backordered to December or January now. I haven't yet gotten the real grade Hi-Nu to go with it, but I have a dummy pre-order set with BigBadToyStore unless one of my other sources get it in. I got one of their new stickers too. I much prefer the original font types but I wonder if they have any other mock-up styles coming. I have to laugh at the Haro though. It looks almost like mine! "Yaaaaaah!!"
Even so, we're talking about something in a fixed pose. Actors' faces and expressions change, but the mask slits don't.

The "Kubrick Stare" isn't as much about the facial expression as it is about the brow line. The brow-line obscures the top edge of the eye to give a more intense appearance. A similar effect can be achieved through a brimmed hat or helmet.
Oh man I hope so too! God knows the Turn A deserves more love! I also wouldn’t mind getting a RG Turn X to coincide as well.
