Plastics are oil-based. The yellow color is a natural part of what happens when oil ages. It happens to oil paintings as well. UV radiation hastens the process, but it will eventually happen on its own regardless.
Its funny, but I have been known to run around in my underwear talking to myself with a toy in hand...
Like I said, you don't see it until the bulbs age, but your eyes know. Like I said, sit under incandescents for a ten hour day, then do the same job under fluorescents for ten hours. Your eyes will feel like they're bleeding by the end of the day under fluorescents. And, sadly, we use the cheap-ass long-tube fluorescents at work. And I sit right under the flicker-master.
I've been meaning to replace my bulbs and hadn't considered the light's effect on my collection. Thanks for the insight. Well, you need to talk to maintenence about replacing the ballast. Or, start wearing sunglasses indoors constantly ala Bill Cosby.
Ha, talk to maintenance. Good one. I keep threatening to buy 10000 Watt Metal Halides to hang above my desk and burn anybody within a three block radius, but I don't think they believe me. May have something to do with the fact that management knows how much I earn, and that I couldn't afford it even if I saved for a year.
