Are you asking what the movie is about or if BTTF models exist?

De Lorean DMC-12, but everyone just calls it the the DeLorean since it was the only model they ever made as the company was a massive failure that was mostly used to embezzle government investment and to front a drug trafficing operation.

Though during the movie they called it: "The time machine" or "The DeLorean".

Eh? I couldent care either way about most American cars and i'm a firm proponent of cut throat capitalism.

However i'm not overfond of businessmen that make large quantaties of UK taxpayer money disappear with no return or who try and raise money througth drug deals, regaurdless of where they are from or whether they do it out of ineptitude or criminality.

Dammit, you had me thinking my mind was going + rereading Yak's post like 3 times. :cry

Another interesting point: There are a couple of Time Machine Deloreans still kicking around. Flux Capacitors pre-installed, of course.

Built in Northern Ireland and engineered by an Englishman, with body design from an Italian and engines from France.

Company ownership and the original concept are about the only American things about it.

You can actually still get brand new DeLoreans built for you by the "DeLorean Motor Company" in Texas. It's not the original company, but is staffed by original DeLorean engineers, so you know you're getting the real thing (only about $40,000 too - not unreasonable). They acquired 21,000 DeLoreans-worth of brand new parts when the company fell apart, so they can build you a new one, or ship you any DeLorean part within 24-hours.

Really cool that they've done this.

Not totally true, most cars were practically re-built in the states after un-trained Irish factory workers cause all sorts of QC issues.

    I would still buy one.

Heh- A kid in my school was POSITIVE that hoverboards (as seen with fairly bad special effects in BTTF II) were real and were taken off off the market because a kid was injured whilst using one. He would not believe me when I told him it wasn't real- only movie "magic." Finally, I yelled at him "Did you think the time machine was real, too?"

He ran and got an encyclopedia (or somesuch reference) with a picture of a Delorean as proof of said time machine's existance. He honestly, truly believed, in the film, I guess. I conceded the point and told him that, obviously, he was right and that I was the idiot.

Director Robert Zemeckis is partly to blame for this. In a behind the scenes TV special for BTTF II, he tells that hoverboard story with a straight face. I believed it for the longest time too (gimme a break, I was ten at the time)

I once saw a DeLorean in a Safeway parking lot, with a personalized license plate that said "TIMEBOY" or something like that. Part of me wonders if it actually was John "Steelskin" Spangler, since I read he does/did live in Tucson.

Ha! That's funny. Still doesn't explain why that kid thought time travel was real, tho'.

I had seen the custom a long time ago, but hadn't been back to the guy's site in years- I can't believe he made a TV commercial that looked so good!
