Man I kinda want 'em for the extra leg bits. XD

I also like how far they're going with the infringement:

Hey everyone, I've got a Mugen Arther I don't really need. He's in the standard red, blue, and yellow colors and is complete, aside from the lack of stickers. First, any idea how much he'd go for? And second, any takers? I'm open to offers. :D

I was reconfiguring my collection, as I am one to do every couple of years, and I came to the realization that I never obtained a Mugen Saga Pharoah set or the much harder to find Mugen NEXT Police.

I have alerts set on Mandarake, but if anyone knows of anywhere or anyone who has these sets (unbuilt), please let me know.

I found NEXT Police on Ebay (I actually ended up with a few extra cars and central bots cuz they kept popping up for cheap). Could always hit up jspook on there and see if he's spotted any. Mandarake's prolly the best bet these days. I would be shocked if Pharoah isn't on ebay, but I bet it will almost always be with Arthur as a set.

Well, I'm no expert so I'll prolly get some of this a bit off, but TL;DR - they're what GoBots turned into in Japan in the early 2000's. There's essentially 3 sort of overall arcs to it.
The first arc is all core robots that have armor that turns them into an animal and a vehicle. They're very modular and you can make some pretty nuts stuff off of them. The first arc goes through characters named from a-z with some repaints and other smaller offshoots. After that, there were characters that had an animal mode and could break into weapons for other Mugenbine, as well as some that had 'engines' in place of the core robot that made parts on the vehichles/animals spin. There was also a subline that replaced the core robot with container boxes so you could make bases out of them, and some where the core robot was more of a pilot rather than a piece of the machine.

The second arc is the candy toy series. Basically these were model kits you had to assemble yourself that came with a small piece of gum. AT this point, don't eat the gum. They have decals and they're overall a lot smaller, but they mostly came in themed groups of five that had an overall combined robot mode. There were some offshoots of this, include Machine robot NEXT, Moebine (a set that comes with surprisingly SFW anime girl figures), and EVOBINE (a series where each figure has an egg, baby, and adult animal mode), but the basic concept is the same. A lot of these sets eventually got additional 'dragon' sets that are pared-down versions of the main figures that combined into a dragon and could become armor for the main gestalt robots. These also got released as Mugen Saga, where they would sell 2 sets of the same gestalt in different colors that could combine into an EVEN BIGGER gestalt.

Finally, there was Mugen Heroes. The idea behind this last art was to bring the overall design closer to the first arc. Each figure had a central frame where you could slot in different lenticular cards that I guess kinda determined the robot's personality? They had a robot mode and a beast mode, but the frames kinda made them all suck. They're not terrible, they're just just kinda clunky compared to the previous series. That said, there was a smaller set of 'weapon' robots that had a beast, weapon, and robot mode that were part of the line as well, and most of those were pretty cool.

That's a super quick rundown. There's a decent breakdown on the wikipedia page over here Machine Robo Mugenbine - Wikipedia but it's out of date and misses a lot of Saga and Heroes stuff.

It's a blast to collect these guys. They're such an interesting snapshot and a lot of fun to mess around with. It can get pricey, but if you're patient and keep your eyes peeled, you can build a complete set at a relatively decent speed.

I would say that is a very decent summary of what they are. But, to add some key points:

    - Machine Robo Mugenbine is a "sequel" of sorts to the Machine Robo Rescue series, which was a "sequel" of sorts to Machine Robo (known a Go-Bots in the States)

    - They have pegs and peg holes and can be combined in any number of forms/modes/ideas. In fact the term Mugenbine loosely translates into "Infinite Combination"

    - If you are serious about collecting them, then look for jsp00k on eBay. If he doesn't have what you are looking for, just send him a message and he will see what he can find.

I second all of that! Combining mugenbine is half the fun, and you can still find sites out there that get really nuts with it. And also jspook rules. I got the first and last (and many in between) pieces in my collection from him. Super friendly.
