For insurance purposes has anyone got their toy collection officially appraised? If so what has to be done?
I know the typical home insurance policy will only insure up to a particular value and if you wanted to get something like a collection or an engagement ring insured you have to add a "rider". The problem is I can't find any appraisal places around that will appraise a toy collection as most places only look at things that are at least 50 years old.
I just keep a list of the TFs I have, their condition, and completeness. Plus, the total value of my collection is waaaayyyy under the amount that my home insurance policy would pay for lost property, so, I don't worry about it too much. Your situation, though, could be different.
my collection is covered under house insurance, under it's own listing. my collection ( not only transformers, but many other toys and collectibles as well) is stored in a secured room at my mothers house. she pays a bit extra, no idea what, to cover my collections, and her crystal collections. all i know is, if the house burns down, i get $30,000 for my lost stuff.
