Ok guys, I need some advice on Pay Pal and its like this:

A seller from ebay wants to sell me figures by simply sending a Pay Pal invoice. I would like to know if I am protected by Pay Pal in this instance? The figure is not listed on ebay but I have bought from him before.

One thing I have to be concerned is the description of the item but I'm worried that the seller might pull a 'fast one' on me.

However, at the same time I feel that as long as I use Pay Pal, my risks are covered as I can make claims if the item never shows up - am I correct in this assumption?

I just bought a Dai Atlas like that today. I know who the seller is, so no problem.

 

I believe they'll cover you (I know your credit card company will fight the charges if nothing else) but I'm not sure on that one.

 

just make sure the guys name isn't FRED.

 

A couple of ways you can protect yourself is to have him send you an invoice with clear descriptions.

Another is to have him list it on eBay with BuyItNow and immediately sends you the link before someone else snatches it. If he refuses because eBay charges him for it, then you can absorb that cost. Think of it as though you are spending that money on "insurrance". (I personnaly use this one quite often)

One thing to remember is that PayPal will cover you if the item never shows up. But if it shows up and is not what you expected, broken, etc. they will not cover you.

rid - I was thinking along the same lines as you but the main problem lies in the "timing". The seller lives in the States while I in Asia. And with the price he is offering, it is considered low so other buyers may beat me to it.

Since we have dealt before, the seller trusts me and I believe he wants to close the deal fast.

Wheeljax - yeah, I made sure the seller isn't "Fred"! LOL!

 

Have him send you the descriptions and pictures, after that he should post it on ebay, with low auction price, but no Buy it Now, while he will put the total price for the figure that you both agreed upon previously as the shipping. The auction should have no pictures whatsoever, just the name of the figs your buying and it should be active for no more than 2 days. Such auctions are avoided mostly (mostly, I don't guarantee(sp?) anything).

 

That's another measure we considered but the seller's feedback is good - 99.6 to 99.7%...LOL!

 

Since his feedback is above 99% I'd send him the money by paypal. Did he get negative feedback in the last 2 months? If not I'd go for it. It's no diferrent than buying from a member here.

I do believe an auction can be listed through ebay as a private, which would make you the only one who could bid on it. The one problem is that he'll get nailed with both ebay and paypal fees by doing that.

 

Here's what I would do:

1) Have him send you pictures of all the figures and any accessories and everything that's included. A dealer with feedback that high (Im assumming he has at least 500 positive feedbacks?) shouldn't object.

2) Demand the shipping include either insurance or delivery confirmation, that way you can track the package once it ships. Plus if you demand it, the seller then agrees, but doesn't put tracking/insurance on the package, you've got more leverage with paypal if the package gets lost or he can't prove that he sent it. This almost happened to me once. The seller said he would put tracking on the package, charged me for it and then didn't put it on the package. Fortunately the package arrived.

Ive bought stuff on the side from Ebay sellers a few times, all with good results, but be careful and take a few precautions to protect yourself. Since you've dealt with him before I don't think there will be a problem, but an ounce of prevention never hurts.

 

Yeah, I've heard a couple stories on parcels getting lost but thank God I've not faced this problem so far - that's my biggest worry for me especially when I'm living in Asia.

freezowave - yeah, that's a good option but as you pointed out the seller will be hot by additional fees.

 

Word! Fred's ebay ID is/was "ganetic".

Bought most of my Brave toys this way to avoid ebay/Paypal fees.

If you already bought from him it should be ok. Most people are pretty cool and trustworthy on there suprisingly. If he has a good feedback history then he's probably cool. Alot of sellers love avoiding ebay. If those toys dont sell then their stuck with loaded fees.
Id prefer it as a seller as well, those fee's kill me

 

Yeah, good point. I was just suprised by the nature of the transaction as this was the first time I encountered it and er, I've never sold anything on ebay before.
