Presenting my newest MOC: Technic Supercar "MERCURY"
MERCURY features a 4-speed transmission based on one of Sariel's designs, independent front and rear suspension, HOG steering with linked steering wheel, and shock-absorber assisted doors and rear engine cover. The spoiler is operated by a small switch on either side of the car, and can be moved up and down. The car itself is mid-engined with a working V8.

Can you guess what this is?

    It's a Death Star Perplexus!

What's that I hear you say? Glad you asked.

It's a clear ball around 20cm in diameter, with an insane puzzle maze run inside which you (try) to get a ball bearing around. There's 114 steps/obstacles to negotiate which involve you turning the Death Star around around and around and while you do it has flashing lights and authentic Star Wars noises like Lightsaber noises, spaceship fly bys, blasters etc etc.

You don't have to do all the steps in one hit either, like previous Perplexus's it's been designed into thirds so you can start either at step 1, 27, 66 or right at the end with 113. The actual mechanism for moving the ball around into zones 27/66/113 is a little X-Wing fighter that has a magnet on it, controlled by the R2-D2 dome at the top!

In fact the entire thing is packed with Star Wars references, Darth Vaders head is in there, there's a little ball swing in the shape of a Death Star Gunner's helmet, lots of little details (like the Tractor beam, Turbolasers). Apparently there's a chasm swing but I haven't got there yet. The final 114th step is an Exhaust Port that you drop the ball into from the X-Wing itself and yes, it plays the Death Star exploding noise when/if you do! Even the base (to stop it rolling around when it's not mocking you) is in the form of an Exhaust port!

I initially left it on the shelf when I first saw it at John Lewis a few weeks ago because it seemed a bit frivolous at £20, but checking around afterward revealed it's £30 at Amazon and at ASDA it's £40! So I went back yesterday and it was sold out on the shelf! D:

But after asking them to check the storeroom, I now have a Death Star Perplexus. It's just a little bit cool. And infuriating. And cool. And infuriating. And cool. And infuriating. And cool. And infuriating.

Did I mention it was cool? It's also infuriating.

    Edit
I also did a 3D version of that pic.

The features sound awesome! I've seen those around and passed mainly because I was thing about the same infuriating part you repeatedly mentioned.
