I hope this guy gets a fully working toy. IMO, the only two companies that could pull it off and still make it kid durable for play are Thinkway Toys and Bandai of Japan. They also have a good history with making quality Disney products.
Not entirely. If the demand is there, it would be possible. I'd love to own a Transitron myself but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one at this very moment.
I think our best hope is for Transitron to appear in Toy Story 4 with a bigger role than he had in the short. If that happens then the chance of there being a toy will be that much greater. In the meantime, since really high quality 3rd Party toys are now being made of things beyond Transformers (such as the Daitetsujin 17 & 18 by Imagine Toys) maybe there's a tiny flicker of hope for an unlicensed toy.
It is definitely not something I would keep holding a candle for for months and months on end. If it happens, it'll happen. Chances are there's nothing any of us can do to move it along. Focus our attention on other things and if it gets made, it'll be a pleasant surprise.
Is there really going to be a Toy Story 4? I went to the Imagine Toys website and it didn't have the Daitetsujin 17 or 18? What are the names of the companies that make the 3rd Party toys? What are the best websites to get them from?
Yes, Toy Story 4 is happening and set to come out 2017 with John Lasseter directing. It's kind of hard to find information about the Imagine Daitetsujin toys. They're also referred to as Ultra Alloy. I think the 18 has been released but I'm not sure where to buy it. Here's a video review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT_zy3qH4rU The 17 is due in November. I've only found one place to preorder the 17: [Pre-Order] Daitetsujin 17 (Ultra Alloy) Some other non-Transformers 3rd Party toys: King of Beast (lion Voltron) by Mad Toys Dairugger (vehicle voltron) by Miracle Productions Krang (from Ninja Turtles) by First Gokin Also, if you like Daitetsujin 17 there is a different (and licensed) one that came out recently by World Scope. It's huge, lots of ratchet joints, mostly plastic but a few diecast metal parts. It does no transform but it's a fantastic toy, one of my favorites from the year so far. Here's a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XPWbYrNWcw Action Robo is one of the only places that still has some in stock: Worldscope Daitetsujin 17 action figure
I'd be interested in it. To me it has a vehicle voltron look. The numbers on each figure remind me of the matchbox lion voltron.
And here we go. I don't think anything has been officially announced yet, but this was on a recent Bandai display. Judging by the amount of work that has been put into this (tabs for transformation, folding wings, hinges on the hip flaps to allow for hip articulation) I'm going to hazard a guess that this is well into the planning stages for something that Bandai wishes to produce. The dreamer in me wants to see it released as a chogokin toy, but honestly I'll take it however they choose to release it. It's beautiful. Of course this may also simply be a really nice display statue that Bandai knocked up and nothing will ever come of it. Anything is possible at this point. Fingers crossed, though!
Yeah it's likely that none of the moving parts are actually functional. Bandai has shown toys in the past that have sculpting to look like functional parts but are just there to show what the final product would look like if it got produced. I hope we learn more soon because I want to get really excited about this.
I saw this from the index and figured createtime was bumping to complain again. I'm pleasantly surprised. Hopefully it won't cost too much. I'd like to have one but I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it.
I already saw this in the other thread, but if Bandai actually makes something even remotely similar to that mock-up, then this guy would have so many tricks up his sleeves it would be amazing. It really shows the attention to detail in what he has merely as parts of his body that weren't used in the short, as the "2" shoulder has what is obviously a flip-up panel that shoots missiles, the guns on the shins actually fold down to the foot cockpits to look like pistons, and I'd go so far to assume the drills wherever they are wouldn't be anything but chromed. Die Cast metal build, of course, would be a necessity. Agreed on the non-functional aspect - there's clearly places where those transparent cockpit-esque pieces would have hinges but there's no metal pin running through those locations. He's also slightly inaccurate by means of omission - the CGI mode had a sticker on what is the outside of the robot's right leg in Japanese which, according to a friend who was fluent in the language, just says 'TRANSITRON'. Frankly I think the cleaner look in the sticker's absence is preferable, or maybe a possible release of this in true toy form would include the sticker as an option.
The figure is clearly a mock up. But that is fully normal for Trade Show displays. They often show off sculpted or 3d printed prototype mockups. They make tons of them during the production process. But this is a very very well developed mockup. With hinges, and very detailed and precise painting. You don't make those for a trade show display or a gag. You make something like that as a final prototype to show to higher management as a final presentation for product approval. This is the sort of thing you make to bring to the CEO and executives so they have a clear idea of exactly what the product is you wish to make. A final concept prototype, that then would go over to be engineered. That they are showing it off publicly means someone high up really really liked it. A lot.
More Transitron (fighting a "kaiju") in Bandai's promotional animated video for the Toy Story combiner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxTJQmvHL-k This has to be an upcoming toy. I refuse to believe it's not.
