This is my first time using HLJ to buy something. Normally I'd go to BBTS, eBay or just locally but I went there to buy some H-Hanger sets I couldn't find anywhere. But that's not the issue.

The issue I have is that HLJ can't receive my payments because according to them PayPal has not approved my Billing Agreement payment to HobbyLink Japan because they were unable to validate my shipping address.

I never received this problem with any online outlet before. What address I have on my PayPal account is usually what they use and my deliveries always reach. But for some reason it's not working here. I went and made sure my information on both sites are the same but I still receive this error notification. Contacted PayPal and told them my issue and what they sent my were the guidelines for first time users and it doesn't work for this matter.

    Is there anyway around this?

is your paypal account verified? if not, you should get it verified, alot of the problem can be solve by just verifying your account.

It's already been verified. I've been using it for years now and I don't know what's the problem now.

You could try cancelling your billing agreement and just checkout with paypal normally. It's what I do. Unfortunately that's not a fix just an alternative, I've never used BA.

Did you reply to say it's cancelled like they asked, and send them that screencap as proof?

I honestly do not understand what's going on anymore. I cancelled the billing agreement but they still treat it as it was active, I sent a request to cancel the whole order and try again using a different payment method but they haven't and sent me yet another payment problem notice!

After the crappy HLJ customer service that I'm still dealing with, I'm not gonna deal with them again. I was looking forward to finally use this big name toy shop for ages but after the debacle I'm having with them and these dodgy inconvenient regulations they're having I'm not going to buy anything from them ever again.

I'll stick with BBTS thank you very much, but since that place doesn't have what I'm looking for then I'm going to Hobby Search and hopefully it's more customer friendly than HLJ.

    Ebay:
Cancel the billing agreement on Paypal, Email HLJ Letting them know you cancelled it, wait for them to send you a payment request. Pretty simple.

HLJ is not the problem, it's Paypal.

Do take into account that they don't work during weekends. You'll probably receive a reply from their CS on Monday.

But did you reply to them saying the agreement was cancelled, like they specifically asked in the email?

Like LoC Soundwave said, they're closed on the weekend like pretty much every Japanese retailer, so you won't get a reply until Monday. (possibly Sunday depending on your time zone) So you'll just have to wait. This absolutely sounds like Paypal srewing up.

Except the problem clearly lies with Paypal.

This is why I don't use billing agreements. I want to be the one in total control of my money each transaction. A few extra clicks is worth not having to deal with stuff like this. And if something goes wrong with Hobbysearch, you'll have the exact same CS wait time.

Don't do the Billing Agreement. Just do the second option (Checkout with Paypal or Credit card when your order is ready) and they'll send you an invoice to pay when your items are in, then it should just work like any other site.

So, did you actually follow their instructions to do so?

Also, you know all of this would've been avoided if you just switched to regular Paypal checkout.

Also also, you're all salty at HLJ for something that was clearly Paypal's fault, since Paypal was either showing you false info, or showing them false info. How is it HLJ's fault that Paypal wouldn't properly cancel the agreement? Clearly as you can tell from the email you posted, something with Paypal was fucking up if it was showing you starting it four times in total. HLJ doesn't have control over that.

Just seems like he was frazzled and didn't listen to any of your advice (or anyone else's).

Been using HLJ for yeeeeeeears. I especially love using them and getting my brand new official MP's before the BBTS people do, and paying like 35 dollars less as well. Good times! :)

Yes, I followed their instructions which made things even more confusing and I felt like an idiot for having no idea on what's going and it didn't help I was getting automated responses that barely helped make things better.

I had no idea what difference would it be like and I didn't think this how it turns out to be. No other place I dealt with had thid option and they were just PayPal and nothing further.

I'm salty alright. I've been waiting for the new shipment of what I wanted for weeks and I have been wasting my time on a procedure that shouldn't take that long or require countless emails to do so from both sides. PayPal didn't respond or get my request from the first call and HLJ don't have a customer service on their weekend which delayed the whole thing even more.

So yeah,I'm a big jerk for not getting an instant help for my situation the first time I called.

Same, I always just use regular checkout myself.
    ...for this exact same reason.

I think I tried using BA once but I couldn't get it to work.

Has anyone had success with the billing agreement? I placed a couple of preorders using that option before I saw this thread. Hoping everything goes off without a hitch because I don't want to pay the upcharge with a US retailer.

I used billing agreements with HLJ back when it was the height of the recession and the yen was like 85 to the dollar or so. They would offer free or half off fedex shipping if you signed up for the billing agreements. My netflix subscription s also on a billing agreement, I've never had a problem with either one but I also don't know why anyone would ever voluntarily use a billing agreement.
