Many thanks for the comments on this. I will try to work out what is on the list that I still need to watch... Any info on the concerts?
Mac7 takes some time to hit its stride, it kind of follows the 90's anime formula of the first couple dozen episodes establishing characters (little story progression) and the latter half launching them through the story arc. That being said, when it takes off it gets really good (ep. 26-27 and on), and is still my favorite out of all the series. It follows suit that the Yamato 1/60 VF-19Kai is my favorite Valkyrie, but it isn't just nostalgia talking. It is so far the best-engineered, most stable and seamless Valkyrie toy I own. I'm furious I missed out on the VF-19 Advance pre-order, but that one looks promising too. I hope some are available on release day, or maybe there's a fortunate fan out there with an extra they're willing to part with.
One of my friends also told me that Macross 7 does get better once you get past the initial episodes. I think I was last at episode 14 or something, when Basara punched a fold generator or something and he and Gamlin or someone else got stuck somewhere in space. 7 doesn't have the serious overtones of the original(the civilization brought aboard the SDF-1 got *****ed up by the Eartj government!), 7 seems more like a kids show in comparison but has its own charm. I felt like in comparison, Frontier went back to mecha porn catered to a new generation. The original Macross and Plus still have the best stories to me. Also it's a toss up between which one I like better; Yamato VF-19F or Fire Valkyrie. The VF-19P looks awesome too.
I'm trying to track down a figure I owned when I was young. It was a 3 or 4" VF-1J that was in training colors. It transformed the same as the 1/55 but had a few simplifications like the feet did not fold. Ring any bells?
I had a 3-4" transforming vf-1s when I was a kid. All plastic, simple transformation but it pulled of batroid and gerwalk mode pretty well. Fighter mode was most compromised mainly because most the bottom half of the nose was removed for a good bot. Still have it boxed up somewhere.
I had a bootleg version of one of those, it was super crappy and had a pencil sharpener built into the back. I remember finding it with the school supplies at a drug store when I was a kid. Still have it somewhere.
That's very similar to the one I had...Basically, I think I had the official version of it because it was the same but much better quality and look than the one in that video. By the way, the reviewer forgot to fold up the tail fins that come out of the legs for fighter mode.
I still have one of those KO's somewhere that I got in a lot. Crappy as hell but since it's Macross I've held onto it.
For as crappy as they feel, mine actually never broke. it even survived through the era of my 'mash toys together as hard as you can' nephews and neices. God I lost so many toys during that era.
As crappy as it was, it was a toy I played with and brought around a lot. Small, light, fun and expendable if lost or broken.
I had similar one, but the ones they marketed as "Convertors". Had a mini SDF-1 as well. Good memories. Would win these with tickets at Showbiz Pizza.
They are around 1/144 scale. I have a loose VF-1S that I painted into a Max VF-1S and a purple VF-1S with a grey head and black fast packs that was made with better plastic. I also have a CF VF-1A still in the box. Cool little toys growing up.
