Just got another response from Saberforge from Etsy.

They said they could leather wrap it and I could pick the sound upgrade. :rock

Looks like I'll be ordering one sooner than I thought!

What I thought was dead bulbs on our inherited MR Vader turned out to be just dead batteries. Whew.

Still won't stop me from buying the Katana, unfortunately. :lol

After many questions with SaberForge via Etsy, you can buy a warrior saber and buy all the parts you want to upgrade it to a champion saber and they'll assemble it for you with the same shorter turnaround as opposed to buying it custom via their website.

For Etsy, they have a set amount of ready to go sabers for those who don't want much customization but still offer minimum add ons if you prefer.

Thats what has stopped me. They are not cheap.Thats another reason i'm stuck on the dueling blades, they can take a beating and won't break as easy as a show piece.Just by looking at the parts i like,i'm at 500 to 1000$. Many years later and i'm still window shopping.

Has anyone watched any of the Duels on youtube? There are folks who have classes for lightsaber combat.I think there is 7 or 9 lightsaber forms.

Yeah, the only reason I'm considering this is that it really is unique and something that will make a great mantelpiece and be passed on to my son.

A few weeks back I found a lightsaber customization site by SaberForge for their kickstarter campaign and made this. I'm all for buying it when the customizing portion of their site opens, but it'll probably be upwards of $300.

Parts generated in the "share" section:
    • Sinister Prophecy Pommel (Standard)
    • Avenger Body (Standard)
    • Exile Switch . (Standard)
    • Emitter 10 . (Standard)
    • Led 12W+ . (White bulb)
    • Blade Plug (style 5)

    Exposed crystal. Nice choice.

Back when The Lord of the Rings first hit theaters, I had an idea of making a lightsaber hilt out of Aragorn's ranger sword hilt. I thought it would be pretty neat because it looked cool and, to my knowledge, no one had ever done a lightsaber with a cross piece before. Fast forward 13 years and that kind of braodsaber is all anyone is talking about. LOL

Ordered the Kylo Ren Force FX from Gamestop and just bought two Darth Maul Force FX from Amazon.

Between those three and my custom Katana, I just killed my wallet.

I'm curious how your custom blade feels in your hands. Luke's is the only one i've held that feels comfortable in my hands. Its hard to twist Vader's around in my hands(those windsheild wipers make it hard to work it).maul's is hard to twist in my fingers. Thats always been my holdup on making a custom blade, making the hilt comfortable.

Mine will pretty much be a more rounded katana handle so it should be more comfortable than any of the regular canon sabers.

But yeah, I agree with you. I dunno how these guys handle their hilts. Comfort was not their first priority when making them. :lol

Isn't that the truth.Makes the swordfights in Ep.3 even more impressive. I was playing with the new saber in walmart the other day and that would be a pain to use.I'm not Jedi,so those crossgaurds would do more harm then help.

I bought the Disney exclusive Kylo Ren saber for my son and it's actually been one of the better ones, comfort-wise, of all the saber we have. The cross guard is actually not that hard to avoid.

I'll have to give it another look then.I'm sure the package didn't help how i had to hold it.I can't wait to see how they use the guards in the movie. It will be interesting to see how they work as far as being guards and how they can be used in an offensive style.

Did anyone watch the Mythbuster special last night? With the part about blocking lasers. That is hard to do.Me and my kids would use nerf guns sometimes and i've blocked a dart once and that was more luck they trying.Lightsabers are the only starwars toys we collect.i don't care who you are,Lightsabers are awesome.

I can say just on the short experience I've had the past couple of days that the cross guard has saved my fingers from being hit numerous times. :lol

There's a difference about fighting styles, though. The crossguard harkens to the medieval times, while previous sabers were used in the style of Japanese katanas (save for Dooku's fencing style). Thing about swordplay for me is that I never attempt all the twirly flashy stuff. I just take broad swings with my ultrasaber, mostly because the blade and hilt combined make a 44" weapon and I'm more comfortable using a two handed blade than a single handed one. If we were to fight like in the prequels then we would either be swinging around just the hilts since blades of light have no weight or we would be in one of those lightsaber classes that teach you how to choreograph that fighting style.

That is funny.I can't tell you how many times my fingers have been hit.My kids are dirty fighters. They like to attack from front and back. Lightsaber combat is fun for all ages. I was in walmart again and looked at it in another package style and it really is comfortable to hold. If they do a version like the other Ultimate FX sabers,i will pick one up. I've never been a fan of those telescoping blades.

Broadswords can be slow though and against someone that is fast could be bad news. Broad swings against someone with 2 blades would leave alot of openings.I like to use 2 blades, but fall back on a long and short blade(short being for parry and defense). You also have to think about the styles from SW and there isn't one for this kind of sword. Will this new saber be used in a slow/strong fashion or speed/power. Thats what i want to see. HOw they use a broadsaber over the speed of a katana saber and the bo sabers would bring more problems. For all we know, this new saber could be katana based, just with guards now.

Lightsaber combat - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki I would put myself in the Makashi form. Whips are a another beast altogether(i wonder if they will bring those into the moves at some point)

I couldn't find many on the Bay.I would guess its the only saber from a female and you need 2(if your a completeist like that)

The Disney exclusive one is pretty much an Ultimate FX saber. It really is a damn good deal at $30 considering Ultimate FX sabers at TRU already run $40.

Hell, even the Force FX Kylo doesn't have the lock effect like the Disney one does.

When my son and I go out in the backyard, I use the Kylo in my off hand and the Force FX Vader in the other. :lol
