My faith in Lego QC is shaken

So today I needed a plastic crack fix, and I was in TRU and saw a sweet neon green Nito Racer lego set. I buy it, bring it home, and half way through the build, it's missing parts!

I've been buying legos for years now, and I can't think of one time when I was missing even one part. This one was missing at least 4, but I'm sure there were others since I was only half way done.

So I take it back to TRU to get another, and I convince them to let me open the new one first to check it. Guess what? Same parts missing. We open the only other one on the shelf, same deal. Three sets missing the same parts.

Beware the green nitro racer kit.

Kinda reminds me of the Block Bot I got... A month and a half later I *finally* had all the parts...

Hmmm... I never had parts missing from a Lego set... It gets my attention though since I'm buying the Batman series...

As for customer service though, Lego is awesome... They've mailed me new parts that I have broken...

Happened to me twice so far.

A black piece from a Night Racer . This thing

And a blue piece that holds one of the claws on one of the Lego Bionicles. The white crab thing on far right in pic
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...nicles2005.jpg

So he only has one claw like a gimp, but had a spare piece from another set to fix the car.

Both happened within the last year or so , and from all those Legos I bought in time never had any missing before.
So yeah, some of their recent brick counting employees suck!

Eeek! That's like almost enough to shatter one's entire worldview. In oh, 25 years or so, I have never had a missing piece in a LEGO set. What's more there's always those few extra pieces, so you get to decide where those three or four 1x1s and clear doobies get to go.

Spot on man!

On the 1x1's I usually have 2 0r 3 clear ones left, and 1 solid one. Plus usually a leftover 1x3.
Pretty much the same with the Mega Bloks

I'm sure it's bound to happen from time to time. There's a lot of those little parts. Lego's insanely good at keeping tabs on that stuff, but I'm sure there are plenty of opportunities of hiccups in the system (whatever system that may be).

Personally, I've never had that happen. Once, I thought I was missing a piece. Turns out I had somehow managed to track it into the hallway, and I found it later. And I've bought a lot of big sets. Several of the Model Team kits from back in the day, with anywhere from 500 to 1000 pieces, 4 of the newer X-Wing kits (the, bigger, more accurate one, with the Dagobah accessories. Not the original small grey one, or the UCS), and numerous Technic sets.

Couldn't you have taken the missing parts for the other sets to complete the one you bought?
