    With the other best/worst top 5 movie threads I was interested to know about the Anime side.

    Best-

    1. FLCL
    2. Naruto/Naruto Shippuden
    3. Gurren Lanann
    4. Saint Seiya
    5. Gunbuster 2

    There are so many it's really hard to tell which ones really are my top five.

    Worst- Anime that was the most disapointing- so much potential, such a waste.

    1. Black Heaven
    2. Burst Angel
    3. Moa-chan
    4. Kiddy Grade (started off okay, but after about 6 eps it turned to shit)
    5. .Hack

    In before the inevitable "those aren't actually good/bad shows, people are just listing their likes/dislikes, OMGWTFRARGH!" post.

    Best I've seen, no particular order:
    - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
    - Hellsing Ultimate
    - Paranoia Agent
    - Cowboy Bebop
    - Evangelion: Rebuild
    - Honourable mentions to the original Fullmetal Alchemist, Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series, Panty and Stocking, as well as any of the Miyazaki films

    Worst I've seen, no particular order:
    - Genocyber
    - Yu-Gi-Oh: The 5-Ds
    - Transformers: Energon
    - The latter half of the original Evangelion, when the animation budget ran out
    - Bobobobobobobobobobobobobo, or however many 'bo' sounds the title of that show actually has
    - Dishonourable mentions to FLCL, Dragonballz, Pokemon and the original Hellsing series

    Just a disclaimer, this is all MY opinion. I already know hardly anyone will agree with me:

    Best:

    1.) K-On!/K-On!!
    2.) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
    3.) Clannad/Clannad: Afterstory
    4.) Puella Magi Madoka Magica
    5.) ToraDora!

    Worst:

    1.) Garzey's Wing
    2.) .Hack: Legend of the Twilight
    3.) Bible Black

    Those of the only 3 I can think of that I KNOW are terrible.

    I don't watch much anime, so this is a Favorite/Least Favorite list in no particular order:

    Favorite:

    Ghost in the Shell: SAC
    Mobile Suit Gundam 00/Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team(tie)
    Neon Genesis Evangelion
    FLCL
    Trigun

    Least Favorite:
    Victory Gundam(Gave up halfway-through. "Kill 'em all" Tomino wasn't even trying anymore.)
    Maijin Tantei Nougami Neuro
    Bleach(Powered through the series up to the most recent episode(around 130 I believe) and realized how decompressed it was. Dropped it)
    Megaman.exe
    Transformers: Cybertron

    (What I'm sure is the) Worst:
    Transformers: Energon

    You weren't watching it for the right reasons...

    My anime expertise is in older stuff. I kind of got out of anime a long time back. So don't expect to see much new stuff here. In no particular order.

    BEST:

    * Project Eiko (A-ko)
    - One of the very first anime movies I ever saw, and it turned out to be a spoof on all the anime archetypes of the time. Lots of nostalgia here and just good, campy fun. Has everything from cute schoolgirls to superheroes, robots, aliens, lots of panty shots, crazy action, and just lots of comedy.

    * Bubblegum Crisis
    - The original OAV series, please. At a time when I thought G1 Megatron was the most awesome villain ever, BGC gave me Largo. That, and the Knight Sabers were really interesting heroines and characters. They put a lot into giving them real lives outside of the hero business. The GD-42 Genki Battlemover was also the spark of my crab fixation. :p

    * Dirty Pair: Project Eden
    - Not a big fan of the other Dirty Pair movies, but this one was a lot of fun. Um. . . not much to say other than that.

    * Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (season 1)
    - More cerebral than most animes I watch, but also a really good story and some good action. Major Kusanagi tends to be a bore, but she's surrounded by guys with lots of personality.

    * Tenchi Muyo! (OAV)
    - The original that started it all. At the time, this was a fresh and vibrant anime that I still love to this day. Since then, the series has been rebooted I don't know how many times with lackluster movies and TV spin-offs. None of them captured the magic of the original.

    WORST:

    * Milk Chan
    - WTF is this? I turned on Cartoon Network one morning and saw this horrible thing there. I'm one for random humor, but this thing took it to new levels and did it in such a way as to not be funny. The only good thing about it was the closing credits music.

    * DragonBall Z
    - The king of filler episodes. Hundreds of episodes drag on and on and on with very little actually happening. How this thing ever became so popular, I'll never know. What, because they had blood and death at a time when cartoons didn't really do that?

    * Neon Genesis Evangelion
    - Sorry, Eva fans, but I just can't get into this one. I really tried to. Shinji is quite possibly one of the most unlikable protagonists I've come across in any fiction. That squeally voice, his completely whiner attitude and daddy issues. Ugh. I laughed every time Asuka punched or kicked him. Anyway, the whole series was so over-melodramatic and pretentious. Just not my thing.

    * Transformers Energon
    - Halfway decent for the first half, though never attains even a glimpse of greatness. Quickly devolves into a horrible mess that hurts my brain.

    * Akira
    - I just can't get into this movie. Maybe it's really as great as everyone says, but it's just not the kind of thing I derive any enjoyment from.

    - Gundam Unicorn

    Worst:

    - Noir
    - Macross Zero
    - Gaogaigar
    - Earth Girl Arjuna

    Not set in stone but you get the idea.

    To be fair if I had seen much anime before I saw Akira in the 80s I might not think so highly of it either. It's kind of plodding pace-wise and the visuals, while decent, were only impressive to me because I had so little to compare it to at the time. I can only imagine what it must be like for someone much younger who has seen more modern stuff to go and watch it. I imagine it's a lot like some youngster going back and watching G1 and just scratching their heads asking "how did this ever get popular?". It's place in anime history as one of the first introductions of US audiences to anime cannot be questioned, but it's hardly one of the best of all time once you realize how much better anime is out there.

    Yeah. And while I'm not that young, Akira just doesn't do it for me. At the time it came out a lot of people flocked to it just because it was all dark and "mature". OMG a cartoon with crazy death and serious stuff happening! It was a huge culture shock at the time for a lot of people, and those people would then go on to denounce all of North American animation as being for stupid little kiddies.
    For me, it really just isn't an interesting story. The only Akira I like is from Rival Schools :D

    Western cartoons are for stupid little kiddies, and especially so in the 80s. I'd say no western production even got close to the maturity of the Japanese stuff until Avatar: The Last Airbender. That is exactly why Akira was such a big deal when it hit the US.
