so when i was at Emerald City (local comic book store that has a great selection of older TFs) yesterday, i picked up a few figures (i might as well have stolen them considering the price) and my little bro, who only gets TFs he thinks are cool, got some decepticon battleship thing and Classics Octane/Tankor. i haven't gotten to screw around with him much besides looking up Peaugh's review so i could transform him for my bro.

is he a good figure? should i get one myself?

I love how he looks in photos, a perfect G1 update. He seems to have cool weapons and that blade thing isn't bad at all. Best Hasbro triple changer there is.

Agreed, the figure isn't perfect, but he's still a really awesome addition to the Classics collection. I recommend him highly!

Agree with all... I've always found him underrated by most. I like him a lot. He looks great in bot and plane modes (the truck mode is good IMHO, not great) and has very good articulation.

He's not a perfect toy, but a fun one, IMO.

The plane->truck transformation has this really cool "turn it inside out" conversion scheme unique and effective. Robot mode works far better with the shoulders extended out horizontally (tires face front), instead of vertical. Better proportioned arms, better articulation, and the shoulders and wings no longer clash for visual space. Does wind up with his shoulders rather far forward in that position, though. But eh, you win some, you lose some.

The giant comb of doom weapon is incredibly silly.

I personally don't understand all the hate for octane (in general). I like the figure and is really nice engineering creating a triple changer with three solids transformations.

He's ok at best. Robot mode has silly arms/shoulders and the alt mode's wings are too short cause of the transformation.

Octane's a great figure. I think most people's distaste of it come from a misunderstanding of what his tanker truck mode actually is, which is based on this-

And the melee weapon, which I personally have always kept folded up and held as a shield (even though it requires the hand being turned backwards).

Solid robot, two solid alt modes, 4-barreled two-tier gun, and a big riot shield. Octane is an awesome figure.

I can imagine it now. Gives up all his fuel without a second thought, very loyal to the Decepticon cause.

Clasics Octane is one of the better figures from the classics line. it's a decent homage to the older 1986 toy.

It's got it's faults...wonky shoulder articulation, neck too short, not the best truck mode...but it's still a decent toy with a pretty fun transformation. And it's Octane, what other excuse is there to get it?

That's fixable at least with my aforementioned "mistransformation" of the shoulders.

Default configuration, yeah, his shoulders are quite restricted.

He's an ambitious figure, and I like him for the most part. The engineering is really nice, as mx-01 archon stated. The way it changes from truck to plane is almost pure genius, and really scores a lot of points with me.

The one real thing that detracts from my enjoyment of the figure is the blade/comb weapon. I don't mind it by itself, but I hate that there is no way to store it on the robot mode, yet it is a large and integral part of both vehicle modes. I guess TFs that have huge chunks of its alt mode just detach and go nowhere for transformation is a pet peeve of mine. But to each his own...

It's just a minor gripe though....it really is a fun figure.
