excluding humans and Bumper. this is about the entire run of fictional appearances from 1984 to 2017.

I'll go with Brawn. I just never really cared for him or thought he was cool. Buzzsaw would be next because he pales in comparison to Laserbeak who had a great deal more screen time (the cartoon writers were told not to use Buzzsaw much as he came sold with Soundwave).

Huffer. We already had Gears to be grumpy aimed and Huffer's whining voice was grating.

But going by bios, buzzsaw was superior to laserbeak in my opinion.

Sideswipe. There is not a single example of Sideswipe I'm crazy about. There is not a Sideswipe I find particularly memorable. I can not off the top of my head recall a thing G1 Sideswipe ever said that I remember. The closest thing to a Sideswipe I like would be WFC just for his goofy "Robro" comment, and even then he's nothing exceptional. He's the most generic Autobot "character" in existence.

At least Hauler is kind of memorable to me for the fact he only definitively appears once and only in his alternate mode.

Probably Frenzy, because very few made much attempt to differentiate him from Rumble.

I'll give a nod to Windcharger too, more for being a guy with potentially awesome powers that were largely underutilized than because there was much wrong with him.

    Starscream.
He's just a shallow one dimensional excuse for characterisation and there has been way too much of him these past years.

Wheeljack. I hate faceplates and know all scientists.

    Honourable mentions:

Optimus Prime. Boringly perfect or perfectly boring? His toy didn't look heroic with the faceplate and creepy yellow optics.

Frenzy. Such a prick in the comics.

Bumblebee. I hate upbeat sidekicks and he stole Hound's kid friendly status.

    Cliffjumper. Boring hothead.

    Laserbeak. I don't like birds.

Reflector. I like their design and talking in unison in the cartoon but the toys didn't look as cool.

Honestly? Probably Optimus Prime. I don't dislike him but he's so damn boring and uninteresting in any of his incarnations.

It's hard to say, because I love a lot of the 1984 originals. I would say Gears. Huffer's voice might have been a bit more grating, but at least Huffer was useful as an engineer. At least he volunteered to pull Prime's trailer when Prime was wounded. Did Gears ever do anything besides get his personality component stolen?
To be fair, Bumblebee was the kid-friendly character in the original comics, which predated the cartoon. In the first issue, Hound himself referred to Bumblebee as a youth.

    Mostly because he's a prick.

And because later fiction didn't make him better.

I hated Ravage. The new MP didn't make it better. I also hated Ratbat. A talking bat? Really? REALLY?!

Huffer. His usefulness was served when he carried Prime's trailer. Other than that his pessimism was annoying.

Huffer was a lil' annoying, but.....I honestly don't like one character. The only annoying version was bumblebee at times. Dan Gilvezan has a great voice tbh, but he did oversaturate him a little bit.

Optimus prime didn't shoot the baddie guy and he and he.....uhh.......didn't kill all the baddie doods because they scare me at night.

Honestly? Most of the cast of Beast Wars. I get a lot of flack for not worshipping at the Mainframe altar, but with a few exceptions, the characters grated on me. I have no problem voting for Airrazor being in every continuity ever, and retconned into G1 somehow, but most of the characters are so damn one note that even when they try to show growth it comes off as trite, and the characters are back to square one the very next episode.

Also: Animated Blitzwing. Nothing redeemable about that character.

I like them all, but if I had to choose I'd go with Buzzsaw, Gears, and Windcharger.

Optimus Prime, for stealing the spotlight from loads of more interesting characters.

Ah yes, Beast Wars and Animated. My favorite shows from 1984.

Sorry, I misread the part about from 1984 to 2017.

So as to caveat, and to leave my above stupidity for all to see, I would choose Reflector. Such a non-entity. They could have done something with them. ANYTHING. But they didn't. When Ravage has more character portrayal than you, and he doesn't even SPEAK, that is pretty damning.
