I was 16, working at a Dairy Queen. Worked as a cook in the back for two weeks on their below minimum wage "training wage," got my first paycheck, figured it wasn't worth the grease burns, and quit on the spot.
My first "real" job was a cook at Church's Chicken...$3.25 an hour....and that job sucked, I pray to God I never have to go back to that again
I had odd jobs when I was a kid that just paid cash, but my first actual job that I got a real paycheck and everything was being an extra in The Next Karate Kid. 4 days of work, 600 bucks. I was 13.
Working for a local arcade. Sat on my ass 90% of the day and cleaned the other 10%. It paid min wage (what ever it was in 1997) and I could sneak lots of Fruit Roll Ups and candy (ticket prizes). One guy came in and played most of the games and had about all the high scores. used GOD as his initials. I ended up getting the top 10 scores on Virtua Cop 2. I kicked ass.... GOD played Maximum Hangtime a lot. I started to play too and created Satan. My guy had the werewolf head. good times..
I worked in my Uncle Fred's greengrocers when I was 13-ish (sooo long ago). I didn't do any customer interaction, just helped with deliveries and hauled sacks of spuds around. I don't actually remember getting paid, although I doubt I'd have done it for nothing so I suppose I must have been.
First job, working in a comic shop for store credit. First paying job was working at a gas station that had a car wash where we had to go out and wash the cars before it went thru the machine. $4.25 hour WHOOOOOO!!!
Way back in 1989-1992 I worked at Auto Bell Car Wash during my high school years. Pretty good money for back then for a kid my age. 5.50 an hr plus all the tips you could make. Tips ranged from anywhere from 250-350 a week, so for a student I was doing pretty well. Loved that job! The only bad thing about it was having a constant V-neck farmers tan. After HS, I built tires for General Tire on the weekend, while attending North Carolina State Univ. during the week. That job paid for college in full.
First job was mowing, and that was whatever they'd pay. First job job was factory work at $8.35 an hour.
When I was 14. I was the lawn Maintenance for Century 21. Pretty crazy first summer job. Pay:$50 to $75 a lawn. Did probally 3 to 4 a day. Sometimes it would slow down so we didnt make money when it slowed down. But hell, for a first job at 14 living with my parents making bank in the summer. Man I had all the Nintendo games
Working at this Porta-potty sized booth called the Candy Shack in the parking lot of a strip mall. I was maybe 13, 14. Made probably $3 an hour. Got fired when one of the other guys told the owners I was giving stuff out to my friends. They did an inventory, and everything he'd described came up missing, 'cause he was selling it and pocketing the cash. Years later, he's a friend of a friend, and as an apology, he gets me a job lifeguarding at a country club. Where he was caught charging meals to member's accounts, which he blamed on me (again) and I found myself without a job. My own damn fault that time. My uncle is Robert E. Lee, and he's thrilled about it. He's half-Asian, but doesn't look it at all, so he just plays the name up every chance he gets.
