Wow, great topic OP! Man, I remember a few years back when I was obsessed with stand-up. Like 1/3 of my dvd collection was stricly stand-up comedy, plus I'd go to a ton of shows. For me: "Untouchable" status: George Carlin (really wish I got to see him live) Chris Rock (some amazing stuff in the 90's, tho I didn't care for his last dvd) Jerry Seinfeld Eddie Murphy Steven Wright Richard Pryor Also great: Russel Peters Brian Regan Jim Gafigan ("Hot pockets!") Dave Chappelle Mitch Hedberg Eddie Izzard Lewis Black Demetri Martin Zack Galifinakis (even before The Hangover) Louis CK Seen him a few times too, he use to workout at my old gym lol
I don't think this necessarily counts as funny, but I'm seventeen so I still get a kick out of incessant, needless vulgarity, so Denis Leary still makes me laugh. Um, I guess most comedians are great to me, as my friends know all too well. Even the lamest joke can make me laugh continuously (I seriously can't stop even minutes afterwards for some jokes). Lee Mack's routine which was copied on Australia's Got Talent was a nice one. Oh, and Dave Chapelle's hilarious. And Christopher Titus' routine (the one where he said 60-something percent of families are dysfunctional) was arguably the only routine over 5 minutes that I ever thought was well worth watching, even more than once, in terms of one guy standing there and talking incessantly. I never knew more than a few minutes of incessant chatter could still be funny until I watched that one. Epic. Practically anyone who's ever been on Just for Laughs gets a mention, though some seriously need to be kicked off the stage. Only a few, but still. *oh, and Brad Sherwood and Colin Mochrey (sp?) (the two from Whose line) for their scarily funny mousetrap act and lie-down comedy.
Fuck me, how did we forget about Titus? I remember looking into his standup years later because I remembered about his tv show & being really wowed at his delivery.
Can't believe this is the only mention of Jim's name (even if you did spell it wrong ) I think it's either "Jeffries" or "Jefferies". I saw an interview with him once where he says he's not even sure if it has the extra 'e' in it or not. But still, this guy is one of the very few in the world to ALWAYS make me laugh. Showed him to a few of my friends and they are all immediate converts. A true genius, if not a little drunk most of the time
i use to go to comedy clubs and have a few beers myself but those days are long gone. i remember you can still smoke at bars back then. lol yeah a long long time ago. how tall is ron?
I like George Carlin, Steve Hughes, Chris Rock, and Seinfeld. I don't really watch a lot of Stand up, though.
