I am sure many of you are kids of the 80s like me. As such, saturday morning cartoons were likely accompanied by heaping bowl of sugary goodness. So many good cereals have bit the dust...fruit islands, ghostbusters, nerds, star wars, nintendo breakfast system...etc

That said, some cereals of that era are still around. I have tried a few of them, and find most to be disgusting shadows of themselves...most have reduced sugar content, or taste nothing like they used to. On the "bleh to blaaarg" list for me are: fruity pebbles, cookie crisp, captain crunch, apple jacks, peanut butter crunch, alphabits, those just off the top off my head....heres a bonus for you...how many of these AWESOME cereals from this website have you had?

Topher's Breakfast Cereal Character Guide - Ralston

I had almost all of them..even rainbow brite!

RIP Ralston...sooo many delicious cereals lost to time

Rainbow Brite was awesome. So were Ghostbusters.

I've really wanted some Quaker Oat Bran lately, do they still make that?

nah, I used to eat cereal pretty regularly, and have noticed the gradual decline in taste over time. Lucky charms, count chocula, frankenberry; three more cereals that tasted good back in the day, that suck now.

    RIP Yummy Mummy!

I've always avoided Sugar Cereal with the "Marsh mellows" in them, they always tasted so darn nasty. Our Dad bought Spider-Man Cereal back when the 1990's Spider-Man:TAS was popular on FOX KIDS and it was just awful. It was like swallowing powered Flintstone's Vitamins drowned in milk to me. The same could be said of Trix, Lucky Charms, Pops, cookie crisp, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, count chocula, and host of other Cereals.

Ironically, Apple Jacks don't taste any different to me (but then I never ate them during the 80's). Two Cereals I've noticed a major change in, However, are Frosted Flakes and Cap' N' Crunch. They really don't taste the same as they used to anymore.

Muelisx and Grape Nuts still taste like SHITE to me.
    that'll never change.

I think Frosted Flakes and some of the others have changed because they changed the product. reduced sugar amounts, using different grains, etc.
it is the whole "healthy" thing.

And yeah, I taste the difference in Frosted Flakes.
Oddly enough, my favorite cereal is Special K.
(i feel so girly, now...why?) it is sweet. but not sugary as hell.

Frosted Flakes definitely went way downhill. The sugar used to be like this hard shell around the corn flake; now it looks, and kinda tastes, like they just dropped it in chalk dust. On a semi-related note, Cinnamon Krunchers, introduced a few years back and also pimped by Tony the Tiger, was the best cereal evar. And they fucking stopped making it. Rage!

Feh to all this reduced sugar nonsense. Damn kids need to go outside and run that shit off. I've gone back to just buying regular Cheerios, Chex and such and adding my own sugar.

I used to LOVE Frosted Flakes and Lucky Charms. But they both lost their sugaryness... *sigh*

My favorite kinda cereal nowadays is corn flakes with a little sugar sprinkled on. I also really like Corn Chex. But, for things that I just don't have the taste for-

Life- taste way too "vanilla" now
Peanut Butter Crunch- Taste really greasy
Cookie Crisp, Fruit Loops, Capn Crunch, and just about any other frosted cereal- they taste like they have a coat of plastic on them.

You know what's amazing about cereal overall is though- no matter what cereal you get, be it Lucky Charms or Corn Flakes- the calories are really close.

Peanut Butter Crunch is the shiznit!!!!

I used to love this cereal called "Buckwheats" they don't make it anymore, but it tasted sort of like Whole Wheat Total but with honey on it.

The best was "Batman Returns" cereal. It was chocolate chex type cereal with marshmallows. I also loved "Croonchy Stars" from the Swedish Chef, not only did it taste good, but the box text was funny as hell.

    It was "O-tay!"

I still can enjoy some sugar cereals, but lately if I eat cereal I eat Frosted Mini Wheats.

Most mornings I am out the door and I just take a meal replacement bar. Now I eat a Cliff bar. Chocolate Chip is very good as is the Peanut Butter Crunch one. I have that and pint of lowfat chocolate milk (Dean's Brand) and a small bottle of OJ.

I miss Frankenberry. How Count Chocula survived and he didn't is beyond me.

EDIT: Just browsed the link and it says he is still around. WTF? Stupid Canada. :(

Cinnamon Life is my all-time favorite. Loved it as a kid, love it still. Mikey likes it... And I swear I've seen Quaker Oat Bran around. That's the one with the dark brown squares with the holes in the center that tastes like horse feed right?
