I'm a novice's novice at this custom painting thing but I figured I'd post my first attempt. It was a several part process, including spray painting the gun silver/black and the thighs white, face parts and chrome parts silver, then hand painting the yellow parts and the black parts in the arms and midsection red. The toughest part was matching the red as it's a brownish color that's not too common. Finally applying faction labels to both shoulders. I understand that the red is not really all that close to the animation model but I kind of dig it in a weird way. Interested in what the pros out there think of the job I did.

 

This is beautiful! I was planning on doing this if I found it at a cheap price. The only thing I would have changed are the vents on the legs. But still you did a wonderful job, I really dig the darker blues and reds it makes it look better than the original.

 

Your technique is fantastic, but you've taken away the one part of that release that I've always liked, which was the darker thighs! However, in service of your goal, it totally works.

That's pretty damn impressive paintwork for a "novice's novice". You should see my piss poor attempts at painting if you wanna see a REAL novice's novice...

Excellent job/ Love those colours. The Autobot symbols with the fake chrome reflection look really out of place.

Yeah, they were the only ones I had on hand, I know they don't really match the animation model, but I dig the coloring so I decided to keep them. I put a Decepticon version of those labels on my Apollyon as well and I kinda like how they stand out.

Prime didn't have silver stripes in his truck mode in the cartoons, just FYI.

 

Excellent job! I think it looks fantastic and doesn't look like a beginner's work to me. I've contemplated doing something like this, but don't have the skill/patience to take the parts off and get them back on. I'm loving this. Kudos!

 

Are you referring to the stripes on his arms? If so, good point, I may have to take care of that!

 

Thanks and yeah, getting some of those pins out was NO JOKE, there were several times where I almost threw some of those parts out the window lol!
