Oh my lord...they have those up in Bloomington. Of the few memories I have from staggering around Bloomington, late at night, filled with alcohol content, one of the things that stands out clearly are the sounds of those stupid, chirping, singing, bleeping traffic lights.

The fact that there's an apostrophe missing from the sign has bugged me for as long as I can remember.

Also, the title of this thread made me snicker.

I actually had my first encounter with one of those damn contraptions last night. It wouldn't be so bad if it beeped a few times after you pressed the button and then beeped when the walk light actually comes on. As it is, I nearly went insane listening to the beeping for over five minutes.

And I really don't understand the point of even having those in a college town. The idiots run so many redlights that it isn't safe at all for a blind person to be walking around without some assistance.

I thought he had broken up with his girlfriend.

I was always amazed watching the blind people get around my college campus. They seemed to know their way around better than the sighted fools bumbling between buildings. The only time I saw a blind person have a problem was when it snowed heavily, screwing up their landmarks.

We have a diagonal crosswalk that doesn't have beepers, and yet the blind people knew exactly when to walk and when not to. They had better timing than the students who'd try to start crossing diagonally while it was on a yellow and come damn near close to getting clipped.

ok, now you need a manhole-encircled-traffic-cones-with-glass-top coffee table.

edit: also, a green muppet in a thrash can costume and pet worm to complete the ensemble.

Does this include nights, when college kids are driving even more crazily than usual?

Yep. And it's on a hill, so there are always the skateboarders trying to time the light right so they can go flying through it.
