This guy at work brought his Xbox in last night. I was looking at it and noticed that there was an ethernet port on the back. I know you can use it to connect online for games and stuff, but a thought popped in my head. With it being a Microsoft product, would Windows XP recognize that it was there if you were to connect it straight to your computer? Just curious.

Yeah, once it's modded via softmod or modchip, you can do many wonderful things with that Xbox and the Eternet port.

Ok, speaking of modding, What kind of things can you do with a modded Xbox? Can you still get on Xbox Live?

For the answer to all that can be done with a modded box check out www.xbox-scene.com And no you can no longer use xbox live after its done, unless you want your account banned.

With a modchip with switch you can still get on Live as long as you remember to turn it off. I have a softmodded Xbox and I downloaded bunches of homebrew stuff onto it. It can also do illegal things, but I did it to use Xbox media center to stream anything from my PC or internet to it. It's pretty cool.

Thanks, I'll have to check them out.

I'm planning on buying an Xbox soon. A guy at work mods them, so I was trying to figure out what I could do if I let him work on it.. Just trying to see the pros and cons. :D

Not nessicarily true. MS supossedly scans HDs while connected to live looking for homebrew. Not a risk I'd be willing to take with my $50 live account.

Aren't there other servers besides Live? I remember a friend of mine playing Halo2 on something else besides Live, but I don't remember what it was called.

Yeah, not all chips are created equally, and if you install it wrong Live will get ya. I bought a chip but never installed it since the softmod did everything I needed. I would not recommend someone attempting a softmod though unless you are confident in your abilities.

It's called xlink kai. It is an online alternitave, but requires you have a PC.

Regardless the files are till on your HD, and homebrew saves are saved in the same place as your regular gamesaves. Like I said, not a risk I'd be willing to take.

I'll have to check with my friend at work and see if he's had any problems with Live.

Thats what it was. I couldn't remember the name. I know my friend was always broke so couldn't afford Live. Which is usually the same case with me :lol
