Announced at CES... basically, you buy these classic arcades and make an arcade room, where you can invite your buddies and play old-school video games, with achievements. Astroids, Centipede, etc etc.

It looks pretty awesome, especially the way you deck out your place. I don't have a link because it's on Live, but they just put up a video for it.

Oh, and any arcade you buy for the 360, you can play on your PC. I hope they eventually start adding newer arcades, like Aliens and Dungeons and Dragons.

Only if you pay extra. The games are 240 points ($3) on one platform or 400 ($5) if you want to play on both. Or 40 points (50 cents) for single play, which is preposterous for the games they've announced so far. No sane person is going to pay 50 cents to play a single game of Asteroids. Personally, I'm not that interested in paying extra to play on both Xbox and PC.

Otherwise though, I REALLY like this. $3 is the right price point...it's an impulse buy price. It also means instead of paying $20 or $30 for a classic game compilation on a disc where I only want half the games included, I can stock my Game Room with only the games I want. In a market where we've grown accustomed to paying $2 for Rock Band songs or Avatar hats, for only a buck more we get a full game with achievements and extras like the cabinet, plus the nostalgia. As someone who has spent way more than I'd like to admit stocking my Rock Band library, and as someone who grew up in old arcades, there is a lot of appeal in this for me.

Same here. I will probably NEVER need to play them on my PC anyway.

I think in Feb I might jump back on a monthly Gold membership. Like I said, I hope these arcades gradually migrate into 90's arcades. I want to play AVP with others, and it would be cool if you could stream 80's music into the room.

It does look really cool. I wonder if the arcade games are the only thing you can customize.

I'm going to have to see all yous guys' game rooms.

Probably, but it's MS. They got TMNT's original Arcade.

The one that Licensing may prevent from ever being more than an arcade is Dungeons and Dragons, which sux, because I loved that game, and it had branching paths, leveling, and inventory. For an action fighting game, that was the epitome of coolness.

Purely on impulse I'm down for Tempest, Centipede, Asteroids, and Crystal Castles off the first list, assuming they're the arcade versions.

I might download Star Raiders too. I had that on my Atari as a kid and it was absolutely incomprehensible to me as a six year old. I had NO earthly idea what was going on. I was used to Pac-man and Q*bert, and Star Raiders seemed impossibly complex compared to those. To this day I have a morbid curiosity as to whether it was really as complicated as I remember...probably not.

Yeah, same here. My friends & I used to waste tons of quarters in this game, and we beat the game several times. I always played the Cleric and I still have fond memories of this game. I'd get this game on Arcade if they have it.

I can't see myself plopping $3 down for any of the launch titles. Most I have in various compilations, especially the Atari ones. But if they launch some later 80's and early 90's arcade games, I can see myself going for them.

What would really be the bees knees would be allowing users to convert their existing Live Arcade classic titles into games for the Game Room. Games like Double Dragon, TMNT, Contra shouldn't require a second purchase.

Same here. I remember giving that game a second chance after I realized that you had to use a separate keypad, complete with a sheet that you put over the buttons to indicate the button's purpose. After figuring that out, that game became amazing, for it's time. Warping to different systems and taking out the enemies.
