Noobie question. My fiance has a XBox 360 and I want to get Street Fighter IV but the controller is terrible. Can you anyone recommend a good SF controller? Is the Mad Katz one my only option? Thx

i dont like the fightpad, i have a regular wired black 360 one [to match the slim 360] and did the dpad mod

DIY Fix the d-pad on the Xbox 360 control pad (more than just sanding)

all you need is screwdrivers, sandpapers, and a pringles can lid, and its easy.

it works really well for me, i can play both shoto and charge characters pretty easily with this [charge chars use analog stick, shoto - dpad]

The Mad Catz one isn't your only option but it's probably the best out there. You should get a stick instead if you wanna really get into the game.

I have a saturn usb pad that works on my ps3, if only there was one for 360, it'd most likely be the best option.

I built my own stick rewiring an old Xbox 1/PS2 stick.

If you can get the Mad Catz pad, do it.
The glossy finish takes a little getting used to, but the pad and buttons are great.

Also, audio through the head set is a little degraded compared with the Microsoft controller.
You can still hear everything fine though.

I'm really surprised Mad Catz hasn't shown any Street Fighter X Tekken controllers.
They have the license do they not?

They made a TE stick, but no pads.
That company PDP made that weirdly designed pad.

I actually tried to use that (they have a model without any artwork now) for SFIV, but the D-pad was weird.
Things like Hakan's Ultra II which is the easiest input ever were hard to pull off.
The shape actually felt comfortable in my hand though.
    (That's what she said! :) )

Maybe they've realized eventually people are going to stop buying the same stick with a different graphic under the button every game. Hahaha.

It started it's life as this:

Then I replaced the stick with a Happ Competition stick that I modded so it was tighter, then I rewired it to work on a 360, I added a button where the Xbox 1 memory card slot was for the Guide Button, and added a port on the back to plug a headset into.

I really want one, but I would have to mod it, the Balltop get's replaced with a Battop, the resistance get's strengthened, and the square gate get's replaced with a round one. The square gate (especially as a Zangief Player) drives me CRAZY!

I also highly recommend an X-Arcade as well now that they have 360 options. (Though I am a little biased in that regard as I beta-test hardware for them)

I use a Madcatz pad, the Guile one to be specific. I can confirm that the audio quality using a headset with it is less than incredible, but its really minor.
That said, I love the thing. I'm a super casual player, but after using this for about 6 months anything else just feels wrong.
The wife had me playing Ultimate Marvel with a standard controller the other day, and it was not pretty. Unless you plan on hammering on the triggers the whole fight, then the standard controller will be great for you.
Plus the flat buttons are really nice under your fingers in contrast to the rounded buttons on the standard controller. Strange thing to pick out, but Im sure some people here know what I mean.

I think one of the big advantages of this is you don't have to drop $100+ just to see if it works for you.

That and as I spent 20 years in the Arcade Business I know better than to fall into the Sanwa Hype. It's good stuff, don't get me wrong, but it's not the end all of arcade parts. Especially in it's default configuration. The one big advantage is how customizable they are if you know what to do and where to get the parts.

:D  I rewired mine for a direct connection to ps2 and will put in 360 eventually. just haven't got around to it since I have 2 dual modded madcats sticks too. love the AE stick box though, especially with all the modification capabilities it had for such an old case. All IL parts in this now, love the old arcade feel.
