At some point, possibly in the next month or so, I'm going to buy a 360. I'm not necessarily going to buy many games off the Marketplace, but I have a question in regards to XBLA game purchases. I know with the Wii Virtual Console games, you can redownload the games, at no additional cost, if you delete them from your system. Is that also the case with XBLA games? If I buy a game off the Marketplace and delete it from the hard drive, will I be able to redownload the game for free, or will I have to buy the game again?

I think you have to pay again. So, be careful with your downloads.

With a 20 gig hardrive and Old Xbox games coming out at 4gig a pop, I really hope that's not the case. Hell I can install PS1 games on 4 PSPs with one purchase (and redownload them if I delete them, so I really hope that's not the case, because I am slowly running out of room on my 360.

No, you do not have to repay to download them.
However, you can only download them to the account you bought them for.

Thanks. That's what I needed to know. It's not going to be an issue of trying to download again to a different account. I'm just concerned that at some point I would need to free up disk space, but I didn't want to have to sacrifice previous purchases. I don't know of too many games that I'd buy at this point, but they probably wouldn't be too large (Settlers of Catan, Pac-Man Championship, the upcoming SFII Turbo HD Remix...) except for the upgraded Symphony of the Night.

    Pac-man CE is awesome.
I can't believe more people didn't buy that.
    I love that game.

Like Boardwise said you can download any of your previous purchases for free as long as you use the same account.

Ever since I got my 360 back from repair in July, the only way I can play the full games that I've purchased, is if I'm on Live. If I'm offline, I have access to the trial games. I bought Castlevania SOTN, pisses me off that I have to be online to play it.

Its part of the DRM since purchases are tied to a specific console to prevent things like map packs from being purchased by one and used by many. MS has given out download tokens to people in the past to help fix the issue.

I kinda figured that was the reason, since they sent me a different console instead of my original that I sent in. Might have to give them a call...

    Here's my question.

If I upgrade to the 120gb drive, am I going to have to be "online" to play the XBLA games? Or will it still count as "my console" with a different hard drive?

Likely, although I have heard tales of people simply downloading, deleting and redownloading "fixing" this.

I upgraded to the 120 gb HD and have had no issues with games reverting to trails the few times I've been without my internet connection.

If you go to the system blade it tells you the serial number of your 360, I believe thats how the content is tied to each 360.

And be careful - not everything you bought is still necessarily available for re-download...case in point: Galaga. I was clearing some crap I don't play anymore from my HDD and when I went to delete it, my Xbox told me it's no longer available so if I delete, I delete forever. I ended up hanging onto it for now.
