It's an interesting take on an upgrade for this figure. What I would really like to see is instead of trying make figure this to look more like G1 Megatron is for someone to make a kit to turn the Armada one into G2 Megatron

It's funny I was so distracted by the huge legs I didn't even notice the shoulder covers in the original pics.

 

the legs might l took too thick in those pix, but when painted (black, i assume) they will probably appear slimmer

given the improved functionality of the ankle tilts, which will make a huge difference if you did Peaugh's hip ratchet removal fix, AND the shoulder covers to fix the biggest aesthetic flaw of this figure. . . i am leading toward this over DX9's offering.

Dx9's cannon is totally worthless to me as I have removed the pin holding the arm cannon to the forearm, so it can be mounted via peg/hole. This allows the cannon to be mounted in a better orientation, thick end down and thin end up. I gotta say that pin was a fucking bitch to get out

 

If you swapped both heads around, you'd have a reasonable base for a G2 Megatron (G1-style head with Armada-coloured body), and maybe an Armada Galvatron (Armada-style head with G1-coloured body).

[Okay, the second one's a bit of a stretch...]

I actually like the idea of the upper arm covers they need it when posing the arms, but I would have left off the simulated gun hammer.

 

I don't mind the gun hammer, if they're going all in on the legs, might as well go all the way.

i really like that! ankle tilts and shoulder covers - just what it needed

 

THat last comparison pic illustrates how disproportionate Appolyon's legs are to his body. Great looking figure for sure, but it's legs are a bit short.

Still, not sold on the x20 upgrade. Leaning more towards DX9 I think.

 

Hard to choose between X2 and DX9.

I like the DX9 cannon cover and hands.

I like X2's should covers and back cannon.

I'm undecided about who has better legs. I like the smoothness of the X2 legs, but I think they might push the height of megatron beyond my own tastes.

Nice to have choices!

 

Wow, that's a tough call. These look better in robot mode but worse in vehicle mode.

 

The parts look pretty goofy in tank mode, but I really like what this set does for Megatron in robot mode. Someone makes him feel a lot more like Megatron to me.

 

I strangely prefer the extra parts in alt mode, compared to DX9's.

Though neither is particularly elegant.

 

Well, that pretty much confirms it....Have to purchase both upgrade sets.
