The head is held together by a screw in the back. I haven't tried, but it appears to be easy to disassemble. I definitely think the mouth would look better with the factory paint removed and a thinner layer reapplied. Just speculation on my part, but that's how it appears.

I pulled it apart. It's black plastic painted white....really thickly painted. However, given how the rest of the face is still sharp and detailed, I have a feeling the mouth is soft regardless. I do plan on giving it a try, and I do think stripping it and repainting will help, but not as much as I hope.

the stems the arms are attatched to on mine the ball joint is too tight on both sides so i can't push the arms at an angle to pull the torso down , one extreme to the other way too loose on the proto and too tight on the retail release think i'm going to have to take it apart :(

"edit" well thats a no go its screwed and pinned and no way of getting the tiny pin out

pmsl scrub that i was missing a step DOH!!!!! theres a tab that pulls up and then they pull outwards so they can extend a tiny bit to be moved

Yep, you have to pull those stems all the way up or they can't move outward at all. It's an easy step to miss.

Can confirm stripping and repainting is.....pretty much useless! First of all, that paint is thick and STRONG! Took a good amount of resoaking in alcohol, and scrubbing to remove that stuff. And after all that, as I suspected, the mouth sculpt is still very soft.

Here it is under some, very fine, thin, white primer

    20181018_095654.jpg

I then mixed up a semi gloss silvery white paint, and carefully sprayed it on in very thin coats (you really can't see the silvery color here):

    20181018_101741.jpg

And finally, back in the helmet

    20181018_103731.jpg

So...all that work for pretty much the same result. There is a very minor noticeable difference..like from JUST the right angle, with just the right light Not worth the effort, IMO.

    not the best pictures :)

i may have gone alittle big on the logo but its done now not going to try and get it off don't want to scratch the paint just about get away with it being that size :lol  excuse the dust and cat bloody hair thats not a scratch on the second picture its a hair :lol  all cleaned off and in my sealed display case

so this is a very solid effort i have takara carbots that feel less solid than this !! the headlights don't stand out in person pictures have been over exaggerating that !! but not the face thats clearly way too much paint i will be stripping mine at some point and repainting it

the paint overall apart from a little dink where the head flips around in car mode on mine is superb , the transformation is really easy apart from the windshield you do feel like your going to break it

the robot mode is solid as said already!!

very happy with my purchase and well done xtb on this!!

Yeah...I saw this video before I got home last night and got mine. Even forewarned, I thought I could do something gentler to get it open. Nope. You literally have to do what they do here in the video and flex it to the point it feels it will snap. I just held it like the guy did and bent down like the instructions said. SNAP! It opened. Scary but it worked. No stress or anything.

In the end, a great figure! As others have said, Skids is probably the least needed figure from the Autobots but this one is top notch and great. The paint, the design and materials. I love him! :D  I seriously doubt TT could do better and he'll fit in with the rest on my shelf perfectly. I forgot to get pics of him but I did snap a shot of this off the box last night. Who is this supposed to be? Any ideas? I know this is how they sometimes show "Coming soon" and I don't recall this one being released yet so.....something new in the works?

It's really blurry on the box too. This is the best I could get on my phone but it's next to the silver "Skids" car chasing it:

My wife said it's the "Scooter" from the trunk but if it is, I don't see that...and it's on a weird angle in the photo to be there. Looks like a combo between Steeljaw and Lynx from Skylynx to me LOL)

Do you think a subtle wash would help the details pop?

Here's my effort. I need some white backed logos, looks so much better than silver backed.

Anyone got any spares? I have a whole sheet of silver backed ones if they wanna trade

Agreed, not worth the effort. Maybe they will release a more defined version down the line. Either way I'm fine with it the way it is.
