Interesting discussion, guys; Kickback's expertise in these matters really added a lot of insight.

I found Buzzbeak's discussion of the prospects of the GI Joe movie of particular interest, because it hit on a concern that I've had for a while; that Rise of Cobra represents a pretty major gamble for Hasbro that could have a lot of repercussions if it goes wrong. I know Transformers was regarded as a similarly risky prospect when it was first pitched, but in all honesty I was never overly worried for that; the way I see it, the "cars turn into giant f%@$ing robots and fight each other" concept is so striking and unique that it was always going to be a pretty simple sell to a blockbuster audience, even without the security of the recognition names like Michael Bay and Optimus Prime provided.

The same is not true of GI Joe, with its relatively generic "team of army guys fight baddies" premise, so it's really going to have to rely on two things to distinguish itself: the enduring worldwide popularity and relevance of its brand name, and the calibre of the production itself. As a largely Joe-ignorant UK resident with a Stephen Sommers aversion, I have to confess my concern that both of these factors are being overestimated in the case of Rise of Cobra.

But I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong. :)

I like you already, because most people hate being proven wrong, and will argue into the sunset as to why they weren't. :)

Or, they drop off the face of the earth entirely upon being faced with the shocking truth.

    Yeah, I went there!

I wonder how many people see it this way?
As I've always seen them as giant robots that turn into various vehicle/weapons/animals/ect. Not the other way around.

I have a phobia about hearing my own voice, so whether or not I download this one is going to be ... a challenge, haha.

But it was fun working with the guys and, hopefully, I'll get to fill in for someone every now and then on the regular podcasts. The rumor of Animated's upcoming demise was a big reason for this Supplemental (though the rumor itself was never stated during the Supplemental, ooo aren't we sneaky), it just so happened that we had to break the news before we could throw up the Supplemental.

But yes, good times. I hope you guys enjoy.

You know what I find weird? If you ever state the precise opposite of that ("I love hearing my own voice!"), people give you crap for having an ego. :lol

I'm still trying to find that pleasant median phrase. Something like "I am unopposed to the dulcets of my vibrating chords."

Strange, I tend to enjoy listening to the episodes I'm on more than the ones I'm not! ...no offense to Drew and the odd crew, my ego's just awesome that way.

It took some time getting used to it, but now it doesn't bother me all that much. (Your voice, I meant.)

Oh, cheers man, that's nice of you to say. I like you too! :D

Having said that, I guess I wasn't really being that altruistic in saying it; after all, my point was that I'm not sure Rise of Cobra will do well, which, as you guys discussed, would be bad for all of us. So I kind of have a vested interest in being wrong here.

...hmmm, how about that? I have a conflict of interest with myself. :drunk

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I think of them as robots first and vehicles second too; given that it's the robots who are the characters, I can't really see it otherwise. It's just that "car-->robot-->FIGHTING" flows more logically as a conceptual image. :)
