    Yeah, I know. But the thread took a nasty turn after that so I felt it needed to be answered again with the hopes Rosanna will hurry and get here to save this thread.

    I've tried going back a dozen or so pages in the ToyArk's Power Rangers thread to find good pics of the Shinkenger stuff Vang and I were talking about, and had little luck. I will continue on to see if I can find something of value.

    EDIT: Ha, found a Japanese review of Samurai Haoh.

    i started by listening to the 2 hour transformers revenge review and immediately got hooked. i listen to this on my way to just about anywhere and laugh quite a bit. i actually still get a good laugh on the rant about homicidal prime in the review (especially the whole "AND THIS IS FOR AMERICA" part). this podcast rules and i cant wait until the next episode

    May I just say something real quick?

    I hate the even team. And I hate my friends in the IRC I frequent, as I'm now 11 episodes into Shinkenger. I don't need another addiction, dammit. ;-;

    That thing is amazing looking. I have always had a negative thing about Power Rangers because of the shows but that is enough to convert me...

    Thanks

    Rule of thumb concerning Oscars:

    There's a relatively small number of people who decide who gets the award. They've also been in the movie business for a fairly long time, so they're not used to traking visual effect seriously. That's changing slowly as the membership changes over time.

    However the Academy has a long memory, if they feel slightly or they have pre-conceived notions about a filmaker it impacts the movie as a whole. You see something similar with Actors/Actress Awards, sometimes a person will get an award for a mediocre performance as a payback for a losing out an award several years ago for another reason.

    The other big question is what critera is used to judge special effects? There are two different approaches: The first is immersion and the second is creativity. Immersion is basically a measure of: Did the effects add to the movie or get in the way of it? Creativity is basically an issue of imagination and quality. Were the effects interesting and did they look good?

    Here's the thing, Avatar is the 800-ton gorillia in the technical effects department. If it doesn't win it means people had an axe to grind against Cameron.

    Don't get me wrong, it's fun watching Giant Robots fight with each other but it doesn't beat out "Make computer generated aliens feel nearly human like."
