They could cast Jim Belushi in that role and I would still watch it. The only thing that would really discourage me would be if Nolan or Bale werent involved.

Nolan and Bale bought themselves a huge amount of leeway and freedom the first time around. I'm not concerned about this - Ledger is a good actor, and this doesn't have anywhere near the shock value that "Toper Grace = Venom!?" had.

I'm still praying for Crispin Glover as the Joker, even though that one is pretty much shot...:(

I'm sure he can pull it off, no worries.

Plus, didn't they say this Joker was going to be more "creepy insane" than over the top insane?

I think he could probably pull it off. Yeah Crispin Glover would be awesome, but I'm not too worried about Heath.

physically/acting chop wise he would be perfect and a shoe in if not for the fact he's not a named a-lister which would be the big studios concern when casting.

that mouse movie was supposed to be his break out movie, too bad.

Also he's a huge pain in the fucking ass to work with if Robert Zemeckis is to be beleived. Which he should be, he's awesome!

Heath will hopefully make a fine Joker. I just hope that the script for this one doesn't go doolally for no good reason.

So instead of being a crazy laughing man, we get a sullen, rude asshole who let fame get to his head?

In that case you can also cast Russle Crowe as the Joker.

I heard a rumor a while ago that they were thinking about Paul Bettany as the Joker. He'd be interesting...
Heath Ledger.. meh, maybe. He does bear a bit of a resembelance to the Joker in the new cartoon I suppose.
Bigger question - who's Catwoman gonna be???

Bettany could certainly look the part - tall, pale and a little on the gangly side.

My only reservation about Ledger would be (based on my somewhat limited Batman knowledge) that he's a too young to play The Joker.

something about a bargepole comes to mind.......

Batman and the Joker are the A-list stars. Most people didn't know Bale before BB. Fewer knew Alfred Molina before Spider-Man 2. Topher Grace is very B-list, and TH Church is just barely off the acting scrap pile (Thanks to Sideways).

Stunt casting didn't work with the first Batman film series, and I think they learned that lesson.

As for Heath... not having seen an audition I can't say. The Joker has been interpreted many different ways over the years. Casting Glover almost certain dictates one type of portrayal, but with Legder I'm not sure which way they will go.

The important thing, in my mind, is that The Joker is NOT supposed to be funny, or out-of-control looney. He is a sociopath with a sick sense of humor and no respect for life. If it were up to me, I'd cast not an actor who can make you giggle, but one who could freeze your blood.

Joker should be roughly the same age as Bruce Wayne. Anyone between 25-40 (or who can pass) should be ok.
