Went to watch the Millenium stadium super-special stage last night (bit deaf now!) and twas brilliant! Really is the only way to get a good view of the rally cars, and a fair bit more comfortable than watching them out on the forest stages.

there's the layout, covers the area of a full footbal or rugby pitch, cars come in over a jump at the bottom-right, do two laps and then park up on the platform in the bottom-centre to have their timing paperwork checked.

Some of the US guys may not know about the WRC, the WRC-class cars are 4WD 2 litre turbo cars putting out around 300bhp, BT/alt smokescreen is one of these. There are also J-WRC cars which are 1.6 non-turbo FWD cars and group N cars whcih are lightly modified showroom cars.

Peugeot 307 WRC, considering the cars were still running on their gravel tyres on the concrete floor not that many ended up clipping the barriers or advertising stands!

Very cool! They should have covered half the track in dirt, and turned all the cars loose at once, for some rallycross action. :rock

last photo there is of a group N Evo IX, I've got some shots of the scoobys that were going around I'll get them on my photobucket account this evening, if you watch my youtube video most of it is Petter Solberg's run so plenty of his Impreza WRC to look at :)

*edit* found one I hadn't posted!

I remember one of the guys who had bought one of Tommi Makinnen's old evo VIs had got him to sign it for luck....................that didn't exactly work out.

funnily enough there actually was a US car entered, I'd never heard of him but his name is Doug Shepherd and his co-driver's name is Peter Gladysz, they were in a group N Impreza.

Weren't doing terribly well and they did catch a couple of the advert stands on the way round the hairpin but the car was going alright, hopefully he was doing better out in the woods :)

US Rally stuff is pathetic. But like you mentioned, alot of the US stuff are just in normal wooded arounds, but most have pretty dam big pathes for them to go around. I swear I coudl do better than most of them in my old ass RX-7.

Maybe if the WRC had a round in the USA it'd spark some more interest in the sport, they do a round in Mexico already.

Oh, Marcus Gronholm won the event in the end, finished 1 point behind the reigning champion Sebastian Loeb, who was crowned winner of this year's championship 2 events ago due to his massive points lead. Loeb hasn't actually competed in these last 2 rallies because he broke his arm mountain biking!

It would help, but finding places near or in large citys would be near insane to find. Plus I think the fact that at least half the cars used in WRC are not sold in the US hurts that idea to.

At the mo only the Subarus, Fords and Mitsubishis are really worldwide cars, the Citroens, Peugeots and Skodas are a strictly european affair and yet we've still got rounds in Mexico, Australia, Japan, Argentina etc.

Could do a round in Arizona or Nevada, hasn't been a good sandy event since the sfari rally was dropped, snorkels away!!
