Remember how G1 had those 'Robot Points'?

The clever marketing ploy that had kids save their cutout robot points and then send them in for an exclusive figure? Would anyone else love to see this make a return? After seeing the new Star Wars figures doing a similar thing to get a classic style Boba Fett I was thinking how I would love to see Robot Points make a comeback as well.

Since they are paying homage to the franchise with 'Generations' they should go old school and bring back robot points. What do you think?

Yep, just as long as they offer something cool to mail in for like non-mass release characters like the Omnibots and Reflector were in G1.

Ah robot points, the arch enemy of a MIB\MOC collector.
    Hahaha.
I liked them, and I cut all mine out of the boxes when I was a kid. doh.
I never sent them off though.
Could you even do that in the uk?

I can't remember, but I'd love to see them return AS LONG AS those of us outside the US can participate, not like the promotion that was the Recon Ravage disappointment.

Unless there is a mail-away, I don't see the point.

Yes, IF there's something worthwhile to get from them that isn't restricted to the US-only.

The watch mail in (can't remember the name) was available for a while. I don't think the Powerdashers, Omnibots, or indeed mail ins like Thundercracker, Sunstreaker, Prime etc were ever offered.

The (Cardboard) STARS set was offered around 86-87 as well... although i have this strange recollection that i only saw the add on the back of comics.

Around 1988, there was a HOPE (Help Optimus Prime Escape) mail in.

That had...(memory a bit hazy) Mindwipe, Triggerhappy, Sureshot and TM Hot Rod as mail ins.

I'm honestly not sure if it was run in 1988, to coincide with Prime's return... because 3 of those toys were still at retail, or in 1989....

I sent in my points for TM Roddy since the toy was a urban myth around here.
Got a letter back 6 weeks later with my points saying 'Sorry we're out'

Hehe, why not? Though the mail-away's would have to be decent enough for both Collectors and Children alike for it to work.

What if they could e-mail you some transformermans? Then you can print them out on one of them 3D printer things.

Thanks for the info, I actually seem to remember that "HOPE" leaflet, and I got PM Prime so it probably came with that.
Maybe I was too young to put 2 and 2 together and send the robot points off. Stupid child!
Sucks you never got your Hot Rod. Maybe it was a worldwide leaflet and another case of not having any mailaways in the UK so you got fobbed off.

i don't want it to come back. i cut out the points from my MIB SkyLynx box. I still regret doing it. Don't let a child suffer the same regret I did by cutting out their robot points from their minty box

As long as it's not a US only thing (Recon Ravage be damned!), i'd love for it to be. I also think that you shouldn't have to supplement it with money, though, as the postal service would end up a target for thieves knowing parents had sent money in with the Robot Points.

I think as long as it is "Robot Points <---> Mail-away TF", with no money involved, and it was available outside the US, it would be freaking epic.

I like the idea of collecting points to ultimately get an exclusive of some kind. Of course they could bring this into the 21st century and make it an online type of collection.

For example, each figure would have a slip in the instructions with a code on it (like the Hunt for Decepticons thing) and enter it online. Each class of figure could be worth X points. You add up points on your online account and eventually get an exclusive.

Although I can imagine the problems doing this from Hasbro's end with hackers and keeping things legit. But it would be nice to see none-the-less.
