You don't want to hear Whedon-written/directed characters in his TF movie regularly describe things as being 'Transformer-y', 'Autobot-y', 'Decepticon-y' and 'Cybertron-y'? :p
    You have Whedon-itis! :p
That was Brad Bird? I'm disappointed then as I really didn't like that movie. I can't put my finger on exactly why but it just didn't engage me in any way.
Okay, Whedon definitely has my vote then. As long as he does a similar introduction shot for her as Bay did for Carly in DotM.

It wouldn't be all that hard actually:

    1. Sleeker design: going back to a sleeker design would mean fewer moving parts. fewer moving parts = less to animate.

    2. Zooming in: All the bayverse full body shots could be zoomed in to only show chest and up in several scenes to save in on animating.

    3. Have the bots talk in vehicle mode.

Those would be some simple tricks, but also let's keep in mind that by having another director you would save millions on explosions :p

I really don't think Whedon would want to do an entire film that focuses on giant alien robots. He'd probably do the same exact thing as Michael Bay did but make the humans likable. In fact, I don't think any other director would focus on the robots. They probably would just focus on the humans, but still do a better job than Michael Bay. Hell, even Christopher Nolan would still focus on humans.

I dunno. I was only going by what Tyler said. I've never felt the need to go check out who did what for that movie because I didn't like it. I suppose it's worth knowing exactly who to blame though. :p

Oh don't worry I've got my long list of directors I don't want anywhere near the Transformers franchise. I wouldn't want Rob Cohen on Transformers because he did such a poor job of taking over the Mummy franchise. The Mummy films weren't that great to begin with but Cohen really managed to take out the things that made the first two films work. Speaking of the The Mummy I wouldn't want Stephen Sommers on Transformers given what he did for Universal Monsters with Van Helsing or GI Joe with his live action film.

But I just can't buy into this idea that Transformers is so complicated and tricky that almost no one could direct a good Transformers film. The core concepts aren't all that different than really old concepts like civil war and the fall of once great empires. The characters might be robots who turn into cars and planes but their conflicts mirror our own. Even the idea of characters with more than one form is rather old only this time it's robots who turn into cars rather than a man who turns into a wolf or a woman who turns into a fox.

I don't think having the cars just sit there and just talk would fool anyone into thinking it's anything other than a cheap money-saver.

I suppose the alternative is holo-drivers. Then you can get all the easy character-developing banter out of the way with no trouble. Only problem there is the studio. Once you're giving the robots a human face, they're gonna want "currently popular pop star 1" as Bumblebee.

If only they could've had Megan Fox as Bumblebee' holo-driver in DotM. That would've been somewhat amusing, especially if Bumblebee refused to change it even though Sam is now with Carly.
I suppose Bumblebee could've just had Sam as his holo-driver.

And were you suggesting... Justin Bieber?

Bumblebee having a holo-driver in the films would have been hilarious. Bumblebee could only do audio with his radio speak so his holo-driver would have had to do the same thing.

It'd be like trying to have a conversation with Rain Man.

    Bumblebee: "I'm an excellent driver..."

Brad Bird directed both Ratatouille (took over from Jan Pinkava very early in pre-production) and The Incredibles.

Sure, if only to have something new and fresh.

Doesn't hurt that Whedon is a better writer, especially with regards to character development. If he's got director chops, too, awesome!

I don't see any reason to assume such a thing.

The key is getting someone who can actually make an audience believe the Transformers are just as "human" as any actor. Of course it's a bit of a challenge, but certainly it can be done - heck, just look at R2-D2 and C-3PO.

I have a feeling someone like Whedon would be up to the challenge.

I just don't think any director would see the appeal in trying to force the audience to connect to giant alien robots instead of humans which are more relatable because well, we are humans.

No thanks. I'm tired of the the people who are "in" getting the roles in these movies. Let new talent shine please.

I wouldn't mind if Whedon took over.
