Yeah, I'd like to see it done. It's not pointless at all. It's not like having it redone in CGI is suddenly going to make the original version vanish from existance. Why not have both? It doesn't harm the original.

 

Not really. The alt modes from the 80s would need a major update. Like Soundwave, wich is very obsolete by today´s standards.

I wouldn't mind it if:
1. it's modern looking CGI, not some outdated tech..I'd want it to look good  
2. they won't do a scene by scene copy of the old cartoon, but come up with a new script for it that is way more coherent.

Would be fun as a direct-to-dvd movie or something

Essentially, use MP and Alternator models. Make due with stuff that hasn't had an update (like the Constructicons).

 

I'd perfer a slightly updated one, hand drawn, like GI JOE Resolute. Some CG would be ok, but all CG with robots usually looks bad, unless it was real high budget stuff.

 

...they would still wake up in the eighties.

 

I'd rather see something new along the lines of G.I.Joe Resolute. Make it fast, brutal and fun.

 

I hit plenty of Trek boards, and early on there were plenty nay sayers.

Complaints as little as "it changes the charm of TOS" and more detailed complaints like "they used the wrong color on the beam".

I thought it was silly.

 

And set in the modern times...

 

Heh, Trek fans should feel blessed they didn't get a god awful musical number or have entire actors replaced by worse actors.

 

I don't see how this is a problem. Just set it in a time where Eighties alt modes aren't obsolete.

 

Then why not set in the modern times? I rather see new modern alt modes than some old and obsolete stuff.

 

If you want it that way, you can have a setting where yesterday and today meld. Like that in Batman: The Animated Series, for instance - there, we have Thompson guns and 1950's era automobiles and architecture alongside futuristic stuff like the Batmobile and supercomputers.

 

A setting like that would work.

 

Well, I do not why I see a lot of resistance to the idea, maybe its resistance to change. But personally I would really love it. I think that when Michael Bay movie was about to come out, this is what a lot of people was expecting, and not what he made, a re-telling in Computer graphics and real people of the original series, however he came with a totally different story and changed the characters' appearance drastically. I ws expecting something more like this:

Even though I am a G1 purist and love the original cartoon, I always hated the fact of transformations in the cartoon being more kind of a metamorphosis, I mean "tires disappeared and turned into shoulders", I thing that CGI respects the originality of the transformations while adding dynamism. Imagine sideswipe transforming like this:

Did the fans change their tunes and warm up to the updates?
