“A lengthy battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons was going to be filmed at Washington DC, but the city authorities vetoed filming large-scale fights on their grounds. Instead, the Autobots are overwhelmed and beat a hasty retreat.” IMDb

What a shame. Corroborating this are reports on TFW2005 that Washington nixed the idea of shooting a TFilm battle on their turf. Can’t really blame them, this being :bay  of all people (he wrecked the Pyramids in ROTF and turned Chicago into a blitzkrieg in DOTM). Still, I wouldn’t have minded seeing DC become Decepticon Citadel.

    That would have been cool.

Actually showing the Decepticons taking complete control would make up for their untimely deaths.

The movie still shows that pretty clearly the 'Bots were defeated [Optimus can be clearly seen shouting "FALL BACK!" at the end of the scene while running away from Sentinel] and the 'Cons took over, though. So I guess that makes up for it, a bit.

Honestly I still don't think we get enough Decepticon perspective,

Plus whatever happened to the Fire Truck, Police Car and Garbage Truck Cons. Those would have been cool to see do stuff.

I would've liked to see a robot (be it Autobot or Decepticon) impaled on the Washington Memorial.

That would be an awesome visual. Of course, I would have wanted to see a longer fight. It would have cemented that the decepticons are in control for now to see the Autobots actually lose for once. I know they ran, but it was just a brief scene and I wanted more.

Maybe they wanted to, but thought it would overlengthen the film?

It would have been a great backdrop for a battle since there are so many famous landmarks around the city. Plus it would have been a chance to see if Micheal Bay could out do films like Independence Day or 2012 when it comes to the destruction of Washington DC.

Makes no real difference to me. I'm just glad they stayed out of New York for the most part.

I like that the bots were overwhelmed. I mean, an entire army was coming through the space bridge!! I also like that Optimus charged in after Sentinel as he was saying retreat. He cares about his subordinates, but is also so angry and badass that he charged in wanting answers from Sentinel (and wanting to punch him in the face).
