It would depend on the conditions of the travel and the mission, but to slip the surly bonds of earth, put out my hand and touch the stars would be pretty kickin rad.

I mean, how far am I going? Mars? Proxima Centauri? Somewhere else? Will travel be superluminal? Will there be time dilation involved? Am I going to be stuck in cryosleep for decades, such that anyone I know or care about will be long dead by the time I reach my destination? How am I going to get home, if at all?

What would I do there? On a new world? Man, that's like starting at square one. We would literally need to know EVERYTHING about that planet, all over again. Soil, atmosphere, weather, magnetic fields, astronomy, mineral reserves and resource availability, and that's BEFORE we get into things like the possibility of life or feasibility of terraforming.

If there was one that had a species that can build handheld teleporters/time machines and is sentient enough to know to not eat me, then I would go there.

    YES.

I would love to be a miner on the "asteroid mining" missions. I'm telling ya - that's the future of mankind.

Ben Bova (my favorite author) is wayyyy ahead of his time.

Then I wouldn't touch it, or it could eat through my spacesuit! Unless I sprayed my spacesuit with a low-pH beforehand, I guess.

If the travel conditions are decent enough (artificial gravity, plenty of food, rescue in the event of a problem is likely, etc.) count me in. If it is something similar to what astronauts go through now, no thanks. I agree with Hot Rod, "If you're gonna ride, Daniel! Ride in style!"

Travel to a planet like I would foreign countries? Sure.

Travel to a planet as a pioneer and discovering first-hand literally everything about it? No.

Id only goto find new technologies such as weapons, and maybe some cures for earth. Other than that id like to meet alien lifeforms that i could interact with. But knowing the planet first is extremely important.

I'd much prefer to be the nerdy tech wimp that's guiding our hero along his mission, safe at home, analyzing any data he brings back.
Hell if my knowledge on quantum mechanics is enough to be sure that I could make it through a wormhole, much less survive the trip.

Definitely. I'd love to have the chance to visit another planet, or even just the moon.

So you'd find weapons and cures for Earth. Maybe after that you'l have to get another cure: disarming people of advanced weaponry which overwhelms everything else. Bringing back weaponry would be sure to cause harm.
