I'm referring to the exact same body/model (not something different like Transmetals Optimus Primal vs original BW Primal) but of different size classes.

However, say you already have the perfect figure for the character (such as ROTF Leader Prime), would you buy a lesser version of another class? (say Voyager ROTF Prime)

You mean same line, same character, different size class? If that's what you mean I have Classics Deluxe and Voyager Prime, and I would buy a Voyager Universe Galvatron.

Yes that's exactly what I mean. General consensus would say that the Voyager is the superior version, but would you still get the Deluxe nonetheless?

I prefer the way Hasbro try to make each figure unique, and I like the way they use the bigger size class to do complexity that's not possible at a smaller size. ROTF Leader Optimus, and Legends Optimus are both designed very well for the needs of their class.

Depends on how good the figure is. For example, I bought ROTF Prime even though I had the first, because it's a better figure. I bought all the new versions of all the old characters in the ROTF line, somewhat for being completionist, somewhat for just liking the figure. But for example I would never buy Ultimate Bumblebee.

Probably not, then again, I have Cannon BB, and that crappy legends BB from movie 1.

Usually, a toy must be ground breakingly good for me to buy even a toy of the same mold, like the classics seeker mold, I have Universe Screamer (The cartoon accurate version.) and Acid storm.

I'm very strict with the toys I buy, since I don't have much shelf space or money for TFs right now.

Nope, and same goes for the 15 releases of it too. I bought TF1 Leader Prime, and then ROTF Leader Prime, but there's no reason whatsoever to buy the Voyager mold.

I've considered getting Voyager Prime to be in scale with ROTF Voyager Megs, because I don't want Leader Megs. But only if I ever find him on sale.

And with Classics, I would love to get Voyager Prime because Deluxe Prime is a very subpar figure.

I usually try to stick to the best representation of the character as possible. That means I will usually go for the more in scale figure. For example, I don't feel the need to have a giant movie Bumblebee, so I will be passing on the HA, Ultimate, and the rumored Leader version if it really does exist. The deluxe works fine, and looks good with the rest of the movie cast.

If a "better" version of the character comes out (like if Animated Lugnut got a leader class character one day) I will usually put the best one on display and either put the other one in storage or on my "random toy" shelf depending on how attatched to the mold I am. This is part of the reason why I am holding off until TF3 to get most of the movie cast, as many of them may be getting upgraded in some form or fashion.

I know it seems a bit funny to be talking about a hobby like this, but I think it makes collecting more enjoyable overall. Not buying multiple versions of a character forces me to pick the version of a character I like the most, and that of course leads to a cleaner looking collection and more space. Not to mention my wallet spends a little less time crying:lol

I'd buy a deluxe class Optimus to be more in scale with Bonecrusher, Blackout and various other decepticons.

I think for Leader class on TF3, since they can't top ROTF Optimus, they could do a smaller Optimus that combines with trailer. I'd buy it.

I always buy other figures of the same character. I'm a sucker for Legends.
