Ok, TFers, I finally got to build a solid PC that can handle playing pretty much any game I like... but I'd like to know what your favorites are.

    My list:

    Halo PC
    Emperor: Battle for Dune
    Red Alert 3
    Diablo 2
    Starcraft
    Freelancer
    Freespace
    Half Life, HL2, Portal, Counterstrike

I like shooters so long as there's a solid campaign.
RTS are among some of my favorites...

So what do you like to play?

It's a bit older, but I'm all about Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.

    mine sweeper. Awww yeah

    Other than that:
    Warcraft 2
    Starcraft
    UT3
    guild wars

I can't honestly say that I play a lot of pc games though. I build my computers to kick the crap out of the current 'next gen' game and then I never seem to get around to playing anything great on them. I did that for doom 3 but thought it was boring, then I did that for crisis but haven't seen anything I really want to try out excluding starcraft 2.

    Ebay:
Hellgate: London. Pretty much an updated Diablo with post-apocalyptic setting and a cameo by William Shatner.

...no, seriously, I'm on a part where the NPC is taking EXACTLY like him!

That said, the game -is- defunct; the makers went out of business, the online servers are not, buuuut it's still a fun solo game IMHO.

    My hero.

I'd say continue the Valve love and go for Left 4 Dead. It's much more difficult to pick up good random multiplayer games however, especially Versus, so I would suggest you frequent the L4D thread (plug plug) and get hooked up with the rest of us who play it on PC. Worst case scenario, you can just play the four campaigns on your own with bots.

There are not a whole lot of recent games out there I've played, but I played this and loved it. Your call. :)

Battlefield 1942. Its my favorite of the BF games. Perfectly balanced and still has a great community and many great mods.

Battlefield 2 is pretty good but they never got the balance with aircraft right. BF 2142 is pretty good, pretty balanced and has an awsome mode called Titan.

The titans are two very large aircraft that act as a mobile base. The goal is to capture and hold these missile points that will attack the enemy titans and eventually wear out its shields. Once thats done you can either let the missiles continue to attack the titan or you can assualt it. The APCs have pods that can launch you up to the titans or there are flying troop transports.

It's hardly new or showy, but i'll have to recommend the original X-Com. Even almost 15 years later I can still go back and sink an insane amount of time into this game.

I mostly play RTS games on PC. Besides the obvious ones (Starcraft, C&C/Red Alert, Age of Empires), some of my favorites have been Company of Heroes, Homeworld, Total Annihilation, and Rise of Nations.

    Some non-RTS favorites:
Alpha Centauri (possibly my favorite PC game of all time)
    Civilization series
    Planescape: Torment
    Almost anything by Valve
And I'll always have a soft spot for The Sims

Zork. caution, it's text heavy, so it will crash anything you throw at it- but it is fun. :)
kidding aside, i don't play much on the pc anymore, but the last good game i had was BF2.

On my laptop i have Starwars:KOTOR & Dawn of War, which I say are very worthy of purchase.
