I'll post this here as well as I'm so chuffed with the revelation... I only just realised by the way that MP Grimlock is exactly in scale with MP Prime - based on their alt modes. An OLD post by someone who worked out what the actual size of the some of the Transformers would be based on their alt-mode implied the following: G1 Optimus Prime - 32'8" G1 Grimlock (from dino height at legs) - 25'9" Which, when calculated based on MPO Prime being 30cm means Grimlock should have been about 23cm... Which he is! Who knew!?! This means that the only MPs that don't fit in scale wise are the Seekers (who should really be about 40cm tall) and Megatron (mass shifting!). It looks like Rodimus is more or less in scale with Prime's alt-mode so he's cool.
I went and refreshed my memory at my shelf last night and sure enough my Skywarp is smaller than Grimlock. But not substantially. Sure, their heads are about an inch different but taking the seekers shoulder towers into account there is hardly any difference at all. Plus the seekers wings and Grimlock's 'wings' are also pretty close in size/height. I just always imagined Grimlock as a much larger bot than the others because he was so powerful. I suppose seeing him in scale on display was a little underwhelming.
Im not totally opposed to those MP Seekers molds, just that they are fragile. I love my ghost Star Scream. lots.
megs is prob the worst imo, very fragile and near unposeable, and is starting to rust. Anyone know how to de rust him??? Got my MP starscream for 30 euros boxed and hasbro version, so that's his saving grace. Optimus by far is the nest mould. I still have to open MP Grimlock.
Well for transformers that stand less then a foot tall I consider an inch or so to be substantial. I'm really just going by height though. If we were to talk about mass, I certainly wouldn't consider Megatron as big as Prime. But with Grimlock, I still think he looks imposing and powerfull, but yeah he's not in scale necessarily with the other MP figures. I never really felt they needed to be in scale with eachother though.
You would have paid much more than that at the time they got released. You gotta compare apples to apples. Those figures are old now, pricing has changed since. Plus Rodimus is a bigger figure.
I voted Megatron. He's a pain to transform, his shoulder hinge won't stand up to the weight of his cannon, his feet tarnish, he seems fragile so I worry about breaking him when I do decide to transform him... All the rest of the MPs I really like. They all have flaws but none have actual deal-breakers like Megatron. Grimlock's my favorite, and Prime and the Seekers are about tied, in my mind, as in equally awesome but not as awesome as Grimlock. I can't comment on Rodimus, I'm waiting for the Hasbro version.
looks like megatron by far is the worst. Mp rodimus is not that bad except for a few qc issues. his transformation just takes a bit of patience and after watching a few transformation vids it takes me less than 15m.
I'm glad that Megatron has more votes than everyone else put together. After selling him I actually felt relieved! For me he was a pain to transform and a pain to pose, I never had any fun playing with him and every time I looked at him I thought "oh crap, I hope he doesn't fall over." I know that there are plenty of people who love MP Megs, but that's just my opinion.
Ya, well your opinion is wrong! lol, just kidding, I love him but I understand some people dont like him as much as I do. Really, I dont think anyone can go wrong with any of the MP figures. They are all amazing in their own right. Some may be worse than others but overall, it's a fantastic line that caters almost exclusively to G1 fans, or at least fans of the G1 characters.
How much were Megatron and Starscream when they released? I bought them both in March of 2009 and it seems like they're prices only escalate as time goes on.
