..or at least thats what they're claiming. I really hope this is real.

    Edit: forgot the link: http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=7493

Sounds like it keeps the latest version of PSP firmware on your PSP, and allows you to switch to 1.0 or 1.5. Sounds great to me! :)  I just hope that #1: its solderless. #2: I hope it wont somehow fry the PSP mobo. #3 I hope it wont disconnect (its portable after all). But anyway, Im very excited about this. Its a little pricey, but I really would like to get some homebrew going agian on my PSP. Im missing playing Doom. :p  I wouldnt buy these immediately though, I'm waiting to see how well these things work. ;)

Definately not solderless since they are talking about solder points and the kit comes with a spool of wire. Sounds interesting though, especially if it will ressurect a bricked PsP.

I don't mind if you have to solder wires... I've modded many XBoxes in the past, long before the introduction of solderless kits.

Yeah, it's not a big deal once you learn how. I learned when I was 8. However, in my job history I have seen some solder jobs done by complete idiots that left splatter all over the place. They then wondered why the console or whatever wouldn't work anymore. Of course they blamed everone and everything but themselves.

I hope sony puts a firmware update that will brick any system with the chip in. that'd be great.

There are plenty more uses than piracy for a modchip. It's just the most popular reason.

All the modchip appears to do is let you swap between old and new firmware at will. Most of the people in this thread just want it so they can update their firmware and still run emulators and ports of Doom and whatnot. It's not very nice to wish death on their expensive hardware that's probably going to break eventually anyway.

I hope the next guy that chucks his PSP at the wall actually breaks it this time. That would be great.

The PSP modchip will be mine, and it has NOTHING to do with piracy. Sony forcing people to upgrade through new games is bullshit, IMO. I'm afraid to buy any newer ones because they may break my homebrew games, which already suck to use since I have to do the GTA thing.

With a modchip, not only can I play homebrew, but also buy all the new games I want without fear. I WANT to buy the games. You'd need a pretty big memory card to store one commercial game on, let alone two or three. Piracy doesn't seem feasable.

Hear that, Sony? You'll MAKE money off of me if you quit ramming this upgrade crap down my throat.

To be fair, when I threw it at the wall, I was trying to break it. I had given up on the thing ever working again. but then it worked, and I was happy.

most people want to use this thing for piracy purposes. is there any 100% legal homebrew software that makes it worth not upgrading? I'm against piracy in all forms, even emulation of older games. Anything that can be done to strike back at the people who pirate video games, regardless of age, I'm all for. sorry if this offends you, I'm not the only one that feels this way. sony obviously agrees with me.

Quite a bit, actually, when you compare it to what the upgrades actually provide. You should check it out before you denounce it.

okay, what ORIGINAL homebrew software makes it worth sacrificing being able to play new games on the PSP?

I believe they already have your 250+ dollars.

I don't like modchips, not so much because of the people who use them for emulation and such, but because it becomes a major use for cheaters online.

The thing is, I want the choice to be able to do BOTH. I shouldn't be forced to choose between anything, especially when it's not illegal. There are plenty of good, original homebrew games if you go looking. Whether or not you like them is up to you.

If I have to use a modchip to do it on hardware that I paid for, then so be it. If others use it to pirate, that's on their heads.

    you totally dodged my question.

I've looked around online, and I've never seen any legal, original homebrew applications that would be worth the downgrades or 90 dollar mod chip. I see calculators and other stupid things.
