I've decided that Downshift is different enough from Wheeljack in headsculp and overall "vibe" that he deserves to be his own character. Seeing how I had an extra Downshift carcass lying around (yoinked off the engine for my Cybertron Bluestreak 'bash), I figured I'd make a true Wheeljack.

The first and most obvious change to the original Downshift is that I had to build a new section of car hood since the engine was gone.

Next I did some surgury to the head to make it more Wheeljackish. Shaving bits of crown off here, making pointier head spires there, molding a new mask. Then the head got a repaint.

For the heck of it, I cut a large chunk of plastic off the doors to give Wheeljack smaller shoulders. Not because it's more "Wheeljack", but just because it looks better.

Along the same "for the heck of it" lines, I put a thin layer of putty over the roof to get rid of the texture. I love the texture on Downshift, so this is just for variety's sake.

I filled in the hole between the front grill just because it's ugly.

And obviously, I painted him white.

As this is a work-in-progress, none of the details are painted on. I will be digi-bashing some colors on during the course of the week, and then painting the best scheme. For now, here's what I got:

definitely needs a spoiler, even if its a nascar type... also, is there anything you can do with the chin part? that's the one thing that bugged me about downshift's head, especially after doing the mod. I like what you did with the shoulders, and I should also say that your chrome foil on the grill looks swell.

Right now I'm leaning towards 2 or 3 (the difference is the color of the stripe on the side of the car). I do like the black roof, but I'm thinking it might be too much like Downshift.

I like 3 and 4 the most. I like 4 because, while it's definitely Wheeljack, that softop roof from Downshift just makes that car look mighty classy.

Just my opinion, though. If you decide to go with a 100% hardtop roof, I like #3.

#2 But move the autobot symbol onto the roof, like the G1 figure.

I can't move the symbol now... When I painted it white I put masking tape over the existing symbol... so it never got painted over (you can see the tape in the first post photo).

    Two more ideas:

While #6 would provide a bit more ease in terms of paint applications, I think having the red and green right up next to each other won't distinguish those two colors well enough. Maybe one solid green stripe flanked by two small red ones?

Thanks for the input guys. Keep 'em commin'. This is a tough decision to make. :D

Hmmmm.... I might have to try and make that "venitian blinds" type-thing that G1 Wheeljack had covering his back window. If it's too hard to build then forget it, but it might be worth a shot....

you might can find a model car that has those fastback shades on it that you could use if you did decide to do that after all. I can't choose a scheme either :lol  sorry I'm no help there.

I like #2 the best, but #3 (which seems to be the popular one) is a very close second.

    I vote for 4.

Green on the side offsets the (nearby) red stripes instead of duplicating them, and I love the softtop look on that style of car.

Two or three. I'm leaning more towards three.
