Cool interview with Figueroa & Budiansky re: today's release of the Transformers the Movie ('86) - IDW comic book adaptation.

I was surprised to read that Budiansky never saw the movie until just recently.

I picked it up. It's pretty lame, the art is great but the dialogue from the movie does NOT lend itself well to the printed page. the story feels rushed and there are multiple times when Word bubbles are attributed to the wrong people.

I bought it during lunch today and noticed the same mistakes with regards to the word bubbles; I'm surprised they didn't catch the errors prior to print. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the artwork; but you're right, the story seemed kinda rushed (I would have preferred a 6 issue mini-series as opposed to 4) but it's hard to get readers to commit to more than 4 issues for a limited comic series.

Don's simplified pencils really show that he's become a great sequential storyteller 'cause he's no longer depending solely on detailed work.

Apparently the letterers and editor have also never seen the animated film. Hopefully the balloons can get redone to point at the correct character before the TPB is published. Beautiful book marred by rookie mistakes.

It was sold out at my shop and I'm kinda on the fence anyway. So is there any truth to the rumor there was "added footage" in this comic?

Not really, unless you count a dead Beachcomber carcass as 'added footage.' Oh yeah, and Snarl appears!

And Huffer is more clearly seen as he nearly becomes roadkill. Hot Rod still doesn't address him by name, the prick.
