I was just relieved that he got to talk. (Granted, I guess I still would have preferred a more Burton-like sound, but beggars can't be choosers...) His first 20 or so seconds of screentime, that consisted of him not saying anything, worried me that he was just going to be another Soundwave clone.

Anyone else have a similar reaction?

That was my exact reaction. When he actually talked for the first time, it kind of caught me off-guard since I thought he would be the silent type.

And then it all ended with just him ignoring Starcream. Brilliant :)

Yep. I think they purposely teased us with his voice after DOTM's mute Shockwave. And while I do see what the people complaining about the voice mean and I myself would have preferred a more G1 voice, I think his voice was fitting and was relieved he had one at all.

I missed most of the Shockwave parts of the episode x(

But I did kind of expect him not to speak. I was glad when he did though.

I definitely did have that horrible inkling in the back of my mind, that he'd be mute. But the first thing I did when I opened the Youtube link was skip right to the credits to see who voiced Cliffjumper and if Shockwave was credited. :lol  I saw a name, and thus, was relieved.

He wasn't mute, he just didn't speak in English.

Prsonally, I'm glad it wasn't Corey Burton. His voice is okay, but I'd rather have Shockwave sound intimidating and not like the age that's in Burtons voice now.

I was very disappointed in how Shocwave was portrayed. I agree that beggars can't be chooses, so my disappointment won't travel so far across the boards ... but it just didn't seem to fit with the deep voice and slow movements. I would have loved to see Burton take this roll back.

i'm sure if i'd find this shockwave threatning if he had a british accent. The more you listen to the voice the more you get use to it.

Well of course, we'll all get use to the voice, but that's not the point of liking it.

I'm not saying I want G1 Shockwave's voice, but when I think of the character I just think of a much colder and creepy voice, not the typical deep, big robot voice.

Animated Shockwave is something I would have liked to see:

I knew Shockwave was going to talk, we already have one mute TF I didn't think there would be 2 mutes.

Apparently shockwave is familar with how to manipulate others mind to get what he wants. He created in so he'd more than likely no alot about the phycological prowess needed. shockwave is pretty much an expert at mind rape lol

He didn't want to do the movies due to not wanting to be involved with a blockbuster

He didn't do the games due to hating the experience when he did Shockwave for a WFC commercial

Why he didn't do this, perhaps they just didn't want him to

I'm gonna come out and say the guy seems a little stuck up. Seriously, not wanting to be involved in a blockbuster? He'd have made OODLES OF CASH, and had he been voicing the character instead of Welker, we probably would have a Shockwave with PERSONALITY.

    Just sayin'.

While he does take on a lot of older roles nowadays, I think you're underestimating his versatility a bit, considering some of his other roles (and that he can still pull off the young Spike voice if he tries lol).

I doubt that they'd have changed the script much if at all based on Burton getting the part (or that he'd really have made "OODLES OF CASH"), and I can't blame him for not going after a small role in the kind of large production he prefers to avoid. : / To me, it was more out of being humble than being stuck up. (I also don't think his voice would have fit that depiction of the character, but that's another can of worms entirely.)

It's clear that he's knowledgeable about his profession and knows how he likes to work. Why change the routine he's built and enjoyed?

(I'll be the first to admit I'm a fan, but I'm a fan for a reason.)

On the subject of the TFP appearance, I'm pretty "meh" about the voice, but I'll deal with it--and yeah, two silent characters plus the unintelligible Bee would've been a bit much.
