EDIT: This is the HA version.

Edit: Last new images for a while (the two at the bottom). I may make changes down the road, but for the moment I'm done.

I made two changes since my last update.

    1) I repainted the shoulder area. The pictures I posted previously sort of hid how bad it really looked (I did this intentionally), but it's now much nicer.

    2) I added a bit of paint to his face to bring out some details. I may eventually go back and get rid of the single eye visor, since the actual mold doesn't go with this. But since I'd been contemplating giving him a visor before I saw he had one, I couldn't quite bring myself to do it yet.

    Enjoy!

Thank you all again for your comments!

Sideswipe was added for a requested size comparison.

I'll be checking this out as it improves. I hope this is a deluxe version.

I did a couple things. The biggest thing you're probably noticing is the enamel clear gloss coat I applied. This is an easy thing that could even be applied to straight plastic to give it a noticeable shine.

The other thing I'm experimenting with is a paint called a metalizer. You have to buff it after applying it. Once this is done it's supposed to look more like metal. I'm honestly not sure if I'm seeing a significant difference from other silver spray paints. But then I'm also not positive I'm using it in the best way possible.

    Thank you!

    This looks great!
The nice thing about metalizer is that you control the final sheen by buffing to the desired level. I use this stuff all the time on model aircraft.
    Nice work!

ooooh... Shiny. I can't wait to see bot mode pics when it's done.

Is that paint too prone to scratches though?

How big is he? He looks smaller than normal HA's.

To my eyes, the paint looked slightly more metallic before I used the sealer and added the gloss clear coat.

Would you have done it this way? (Like I said this is my first time using it- or second if you count my test)

I'm happy with the look I got, but I'm still wondering if I under utilized the metalizer.

    Those pictures are really cool!

In the short run I'm going to stick to my original plan (not quite that much new paint in bot mode). But depending on what I think of the result, I might keep going and try to do something like what was done there. I'll save that picture for sure.

I do have to say it's a horribly misleading add though. As far as I can tell he's just selling the same MISB vanilla Soundwave everybody else has, but has using lots of pictures of a much nicer custom toy.

First off, to everyone who's posted. Thank you for the compliments!

He's around the size of Leadfoot and Sideswipe. So not too small for a HA toy, but absolutely one of the smallest besides Skids & Mudflap (just like every DOTM toy, as small as they could get away with).

I'll throw in a picture or two with same other HA toys when I post bot pictures in the next few days. I'm going to start painting tonight. I may or may not finish tonight.

    Thank you!

Right now this is personal collection, but when the prices come down (meaning I can get one for $25-$35 rather than $70) I'll probably do a second one in white. I may put one of them on ebay then.

That being said, this isn't a tough paint job to pull off. I'll gladly give some tips if anyone feels up to giving it a try. 90% of it is just properly masking off the parts you don't want painted and then using spray paint or an airbrush for a smooth application.
