Lol, that first pic made think it was some grown man cosplaying as a Gundam. This will make an interesting Pretender project.

WWE Pretenders? Can you SMELLLLLLLLLLLL what Grimlock is cooking?

Seriously though, keep that head and build on it. That is seriously realistic. What's the size class on that Gundam? Just wondering since if you do a smaller bot what he's going to be for size, unless he's going to be a backpack.

Have you considered going the way of ROTF Bludgeon, and rather than have a shell, incorporate the shell design into the transformation itself - ie, have a robot mode with a human head and hands?

That works really well so far, and I think the backpack route is probably the best way to go about something like this, as it also means the 'shell' can retain articulation too (one of the things that bugged me most about the Pretenders was how little the shell itself could do). I definitely don't think you should merge the two forms as Scorpio suggests, as that would pretty much negate the point of Pretenders; I thought that was a cop-out way to handle it myself.

Dude! nice concept! Are you going to make the Gundam 'shell' split into two like the originals?

No, the pretender will attach to the back and become the back/backpack. You would sacrifice too much just to have a body split. Either articulation or the "pretender robot inside" would have to be much smaller. This is a balance of both.
