i've decided to take a different approach to my version of classic UM, i've used this mould as i think it could pass for g1 magnus better than the classic prime does. All thats been changed so far is the head and he has been given an undercoat, i don't think i will be modifying tha alt mode. any suggestions to make him look more g1 would be appreachiated.

I've gave him his g1 gun with a handel mod to fit, i hve also moded the chest for a more g1 appearence, the front wheels don't work in alt mode but they are still on the ground, any bigger chest peice would have lifted the front wheels into the air, the only other mod im thinking of is fileing down the bit in the middle of his head to make the 2 'pipes things' stand out more.

thats a rather nice idea, leaving you with two quality molds for both Prime and Magnus on your classics shelf. How do you intend to approach the painting of the white? Spray or Brush?

Nice head mod as well, does it still fit into the compartment? As it looks a little bit wider now.

Robot chest (truck windows) can be modified since it has nothing to do with his transformation or truck mode.
So try to give it a G1 look by adding some accessories.
Find a UM myclone head. Paint it G1 style and voila!!
One thing about this toy is the lack of leg articulation.

the head still fits into the compartment, and all the paint will be done by brush.

it doesn't have great articulation but it is still quite good for such an old figure.

Hell, I thought the articulation was pretty good. He's more articulated than some figures of the last few years.

Right, 70% of Armada has less articulation.

Is there any way to mod the shoulders to give it that pylon look like the G1?

they're already pretty tall, I don't think any modding would be necessary. Its all in the paint :)

the problem with his chest is you can't use anything too big as it is already very close to the ground in truck mode

That would be a G2 Laser Optimus Prime, if I am not mistaken.

Good luck with the paint job, I think this is an awesome project. I was very disappointed with classics magnus.
In terms of accessories are you adverse to adding stuff post transformation? Or does everything need to be part of the transformation?

What lack of leg articulation? Hips, knees and feet are all jointed - especially the hips.

Personally, I'm also not a fan of the MyClone head for Magnus bashes, because while it's a good size and resemblance, I think it tends to look too cartoony for a 'realistic' bash. On the other hand, I can't think of a better one offhand - normally I suggest Micromaster Sixliner, but while that works great for the Classics mould, this is a fair bit bigger.

I definitely agree, though, that the chest is a good place to start with the mods. As long as you don't mess with the actual dimensions too much, you've got a fair bit of room to play with different designs there. You may well be able to score a pretty G1-ish look with that piece alone.

Nice idea. Look forward to seeing some results...

As Battlefudge says, it's a G2 Laser Pod Prime (or redeco thereof - RiD Scourge etc). It'd probably equate to an Ultra nowadays; robot mode stands at about 7.5" to the top of the head.

And the electronics are great. I've just dug my Laser Rod Prime (bought new in the mid 90s) out of the basement, where it's been for about 4 years; the batteries have never been changed and the LEDs still work!

I would have liked if the legs could swivel at the knees (cl starscream style)
as it does add more posing capabilities.

Indeed it is...then you'll have to accentuate the details with paint i guess.

Good start. I like it. My only suggestion is to find a sweet gun and possibly fill a few of the screw holes, for some reason they really stand out on this guy
