Dropping some WIP's of my very first ALT Custom. He is a Mirage mold as you can tell and he will become Stunticon Beakdown. White is tough for most people for some reason but I love it no way to hide mistakes and always shows the painting skills off. He will have a swapped Hound head and will be awesome.

did you not disassemble it? or did you put it back together before you removed all your paint masks?

I don't need to disassemble him, I use a super fine line airbrush tip and decanted Krylon fusion so just mask and paint away, so much easier.

Go head Tony!! Alts are a lot of fun to paint. It's like G-1 reborn. Interested to see the results, seeing how there is no disassembly on this one.

It s definitely different from what I am used to so it is a good experience. I honestly don't see why people have to disassemble the figure, oh well, to each his own.

I was actually getting the same character from the same mold commissioned by Vector. It was gonna be all white with blue flames from reprolabels. Im gonna finish the project myself in his honour

    Regards

I don't care what you're using, I'd never want to paint one without disassembling it. There's always places you can't get to easily when everything is put together.

If I ever get up to airbrushing, then I will have to give it a shot. I hear the cleanup and prep work is worse than the actual painting.

Yeah. Those are the parts that suck. But it is nothing more than a little thinner in the cup and spraying it out.

yes. those alternators HAVE to be taken apart. Trust me, I am the king of "too lazy to dissassemble" and after only 2 alts, I've learned they need to be taken apart.

    looks go so far.

Cool, can't wait to see it with flames, this guy will have racing stripes.
When that happens I have a nice 00 brush, so no worries.:drunk

Tis True, acrylics are easy to clean up, just run windex or alcohol through it and brush off the tip. Decant spray paints are a whole nother story, the shit is sticky as hell so you have to use thinner and even then their is still a mess. It's worth it in my opinion though, you cant get the finish I got using a normal spray can and still have the paint thin.

Aztec A4809 was recommended to me by a friend, has different easy swap needle tips and is double action.

    Thanks Tim!

I do not concur, should? maybe, me? no.

Well, if this works, it'll give me more hope about painting the GT mold. But there's always something that you can't see in the alt mode that stands out as unpainted in bot mode. I'll be real interested to see where the overspray wound up under the doghouse.

It'll work, don't worry. Overspray can be a problem but it is easily fixed with a well placed rag.

Thanks Jesse! I loved primed figures too, its a blank canvas just waiting for me. :p

You know, I thought so too. Then I found out they painted the legs and rear half of the rockers on the Scion mold instead of casting them in blue plastic. So watch out for that on the GT.

yeah, but isn't it easier to take out 10-15 screws out rather than hunt for overspray, then remove it all? plus taking it apart ensures every hidden area gets painted.
