    WIP 2010 Movie Grimlock

Last year, I made a custom Movie Style Grimlock. It transformed into a trex, which basically looked like a robot in a trex costume hunched over. So I'm building a new one. Still using Neo-Shifters... but I think I'll let the images speak for them selves. Lemme know what you guys think. Aslo, I'm open to any suggestions on the bot head, as the one I'm using now is just a place holder.

    Update: 7-14-10. ZOMBIE THREAD!

It's been nearly a year since I last visited this thread, and alot has changed on ol grimmy. The legs have beem COMPLETELY rebuild using lego, bionicle, styrene and k-nex. The robot arms/ dino legs were also rebuilt using the mentioned sources above. Torso has been beefed up. He now TOWERS over ROTF Leader Prime. His sword connects his tail to the neck section to keep the tail lifted. No balance issues what so ever. I'm proud as hell of this bad boy. He still needs paint, I'm still debating on his color scheme.

Not rude at all my friend. In my opinion I'm really pushing my skill set on this one. Everything locks into place in beast mode. Beast mode has got to be about 20 inches from snout to tail, and bot mode is just a hair taller at the head than ROTF Leader Prime. Thanx for the feedback!

The styrene is a major step in the right direction, plus it looks like you're recycling is, which is also deserving of kudos!

As far as the Neo-Shifters, I think it's pretty obvious MegaBlocks was aping the Movie-style with that line anyway (Spheres vs. Entry Modes, and dead-on-facial-similarity), so I think it's a natural fit for movie-style :)

His lower legs could use a little more bulk though...

Beast mode or bot mode? And garage sale signs are the only source of styrene I can find in this podunk state I live in.

Dude, this look awesome, I don't think I caught you last version, but this agreat work man, what part of indy you in by chance? My mother lives on the indy/illinois border, and I know of a couple shops around her area for styrene, though the for sale signs are probably cheaper.. Idk either way, this looks terrific bro.

Bot mode, the proportions look great in dino mode!

If you want to get the stuff for free, go into any store and walk around and touch their signs, MOST retailers screen-print signage onto Styrene these days. If you find a store that has 'em, and if the signs in question are for temporary-promotions, ask the manager and they'll probably be happy to save them for you and give them to you if you come get them.

If you ask them if they can give you some styrene-signs, they'll just look at you confused though, so don't be too direct ;)

As a former retail-manager, I've got an infinite stockpile of styrene in various thicknesses that I've salvaged :)

Alrighty guys, I need a little help. I am completely unsure of what direction to go with the bot head. I want something movie style, but still Grimlock, kinda like how ILM updated Primes G1 head for the movie. I have some sculpy but I've never really worked with it. I also have no tools for sculpting, though I do have a little experience with ceramics. But this scale is so dinky and I have.. well... meat hooks for hands. Any one have any suggestions for me? Is there a head out there readily available that's the size and need and screams GRIMLOCK!?

    He's lookin great so far!

His robot mode legs seem a bit stubby though. The current head that you have doesn't look too bad, but were you going for something more... G1?

That's a pretty wild build you've got there! Very cool. I know the head will be cool.

The bot mode legs are a tad on the stubby side, but that's kinda what I was going for. The current head is just a place holder, and yes I want something that's more an update of the G1 head. Kinda like movie Prime's head is kinda G1ish

I really like where this is going. If you want to make a new head, get a dremel and some sanding and cutting bits. It is a pain in the arse to sculpt parts but well worth it in the long run. I suggest getting a junk head you can practice on first. I can't wait to see how this ends up.
