.....I should have seen something like this comming, but wasnt 98/ 2000/ ME discontinued a LONG while compared to this?
The fact that a couple of county governments decided no more Windows could also have an affect on this. The only reason I've seen for anyone to actually (up-grade) is if they want to play DX-10 games.
I ain't upgrading until Vista actually becomes an "upgrade" from XP.
we'll see. i remember a few support dates for 98 coming and going, but so many people still used it that they extended the date further. what microsoft really needs to do is find a reason why the average person should bother getting vista over xp... it just isn't there yet if you ask me
IIRC, Microslag always had a 5 year support plan of their releases i.e. they stopped supporting Win95 in 2000, 98 in 2003, etc, etc. So this shouldn't really come to be a surprise, I'd think.
[vader] NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! [/vader] all my new stuff will be outdated!!!
actually microsoft supported 98 and me until last year. it'd be crazy to end support for xp anytime in the near future.
It helps to READ the article...
It doesn't say they are stopping support, just not selling it anymore on new PC's.
I just upgraded to XP this year from ME. XP meets my needs just fine, I can't think of a single reason to spend ANY money ( let alone however much Vista costs ) to switch.
It's comforting to note that they say nothing about not supporting current versions of XP. At least XP users will still receive software upgrades that'll help keep their OS...I dunno, safe, functional, etc.
ah shit. well... goodbye cruel computer.
I just bought XP 2 years ago, but its only an upgrade version, I wanted to get the full version sometime, guess I better do that this summer
Man, I dunno how the hell you made it this long with that POS. ME made me want to go back to 98...or an abacus.
I found that ME worked well on some computers, but totally destroyed others
It was what I had on my first computer, so I knew of nothing better.
Everything will still work on your com. Like when it says" works on 98 Mil, & XP"
Now everything is going to say "Works on Vista, XP,...."
*And i just bought a new Com in Agu. & i don't plan on upgrading anytime soon.
The upgrade is the same as the full version.
Hurrah!, someone actually read the article.
I wasn't that surprised when I read this.
It's not like most software places retire the old version when the new one comes out.
nope. can't say I see Vista in the future. For that matter I have all of one piece of hardware on this PC that requires the use of windows XP. The Wireless Keyboard I just got today in fact came with drivers for windows 98.
